Venetian - LV

Booked basic king suite. Upgraded to another suite - no idea what the difference was though.

Benefits letter at front desk included:

- upgrade if available

- 4pm late checkout with instructions to notify hotel you want this benefit over normal checkout

- ONE Canyon Club pass per day [not pass per guest, just the cardholder]

- complimentary continental breakfast via in-room dining per day. The charge ($50 per day) is removed from your bill when you checkout. breakfast is *bucks pot, choice of muffins, bagels, toast and juice. A nice healthy selection of cake and carbs to start your day...lovely... Perk = ^ Selection = .

- i believe you can use the preferred/elite (whatever they call it) check-in desk over the regular line.

*** Nice side-benefit. At the time of original booking, the FHR rate was similar to the rate on vegas.com. I monitored the rate on vegas.com and when it went down I called FHR to match. At first, they said the current rate was the lowest FHR rate, but said they would call the hotel. 1 minute later, the rep returned to let me know the Venetian matched.

Also, the Canyon Club restaurant has excellent healthy breakfast/lunch selections that is secluded from the rest of the casino. A nice break from the swarms of people on the casino floor.

Encore Las Vegas. Reserved three rooms totals.

-$260 rate for a Tower Suite on first two opening nights (10% off direct through hotel).
-$40 breakfast credit anywhere in Wynn or Encore (not used--too hungover each morning).
-One lunch credit per room. I wasn't sure of the value, but the entire $55 lunch at Society and $70 lunch at Wazuzu were covered.
-No upgrade. The hotel was sold out.
-4pm check-out granted.
-Most importantly, all my friends that booked Tower Suites for the opening nights directly with the hotel were bumped down because of the unexpected number of VIP RSVP's for the grand opening. My reservations remained intact thanks to Wynn not wanting to piss off Amex as a lucrative partner.

So a

Booked a night at Park Hyatt in Hamburg, Germany recently for myself and a friend (and our girlfriends) through FHR.
We were both upgraded to nice, big two floor apartments
Welcome gift was a bottle of red wine and a cheese plate.
We booked a second night as a bonus night through the Hyatt Gourmet Club program, and we got to keep the apartments!
So we got two nights in the apartments for only 184€
Needless to say, I highly recomment staying at Park Hyatt in Hamburg!

RC Cancun

They said that they didn't provide a FHR upgrade other than from the basic (Oceanview) to the Oceanfront rooms.

I booked OF specifically to get a better upgrade... anyway, for the second night, they upgraded us to a suite with the biggest balcony I've ever seen (only 2 in the hotel that big). Nice save for them... but odd.

Great deal at $209 including $100 credit + breakfast for two ($60)

Four Seasons Jackson Hole

Provided with the folio at check in explaining benefits.

$80 lunch credit to be used once at any restaurant, through room service, or via picnic basket lunches to go.

$22 per person credit for breakfast to be used in any restaurant or through room service. This credit was equivalent to the cold breakfast buffet, which included coffee and fresh juice in the main restaurant. A $5 upgrade gave one fresh made egg dishes, pancakes, waffles, oatmeal, etc. The selection on the buffet was of a high quality and a wide range of choices, including great fruit, cereals, yogurts, museli, etc.

An upgrade was requested but denied due to the hotel being very full over the holidays. Occupancy was reported to be at 87% by the bartender. While occupancy rates plummeted the next day, we were not upgraded despite being "placed on a waiting list". When we had to return to the hotel a few days later due to our flight being canceled, we were not provided with any information about the amenities, nor were we provided an upgrade despite occupancy being reported as below 50%.

Thumbs down Chedi Muscat

Probably the worst FHR experience I have had. AMEX Mkt Department in NY has opened an inquiry on my behalf.

Benefits:
-upgrade based on avail.
-lunch for 2 (not speciified where) --read more later
-breakfast buffet for 2 daily
-4pm checkout
-free in room internet

Checked in to the hotel and told that the next category of room was avail for sale...but not for upgrade. Immediately called my Centurion Travel Counselor who had a major word with them....so no upgrade.

Lunch for 2: Upon check-out told that this benefit was cancelled for 2009. Called amex who confirmed that that was total BS. As I didn't want to screw up my holiday, I simply told the FO manager that I refused to sign for the charges (amex told me to just leave the hotel and not sign the charge slip). finally, they removed the lunch. Literally they tried to throw every reason in the book at my as to why it wouldn't be covered.

4pm checkout: OK

Internet: free to all guests, so not really a benefit.

Buyer beware! This hotel was a beautiful property but the service was a la concentration camp. Rules abound: no taking a cup of coffee from bfast to your room, etc etc. If you are used to Aman Resort quality, this is not the place for you. Their concierge team and FO team have been informed that they are there to increase revenue...not to accomodate guests. If you go to Muscat I reccomend staying at Al Bustan or even a more local hotel. You should go to chedi to have a drink at night and to perhaps have dinner at the Restaurant.

FHR / Cent program has usually given me a great experience and sometimes some amazing rates. This was my first bad experience with FHR.

Breakfast buffet: not charged for it.

I could not agree more. It is a beautiful place, but the service, including from management, is very very poor. We gave it another go, but ended our holiday 2 days early last time we were there as it had actually got worse since the first time. Unfortunately there aren't many other properties in Muscat with that style & at those rates...

THEHotel Mandalay Bay

Stayed here over the busy New Years Eve celebrations.

Upgrade: From standard suite to corner "V-Suite" on the 19th Floor. We were given the 4th floor at first, but the receptionist gave us 19 after some prodding.

Amenity: $100 spa credit, which we used at THEBathouse spa. The spa screwed up our reservation, but they were able to re-book us the next day at the time of our choosing. The screw-up was handled well and to our satisfaction.

Breakfast: We received 2 $20 coupons per day that could be redeemed at either THECafe or the Coffee Shop; they did not have to be used during breakfast hours.

4PM checkout extended without having to ask.

We also received complimentary wireless internet access as another, extra amenity.

Other notes: We used Plat concierge to get on the "Guest List" at Mix lounge - saved us the cover charge.

We certainly enjoyed our time here - it's a nice option if you want to get away from the casino atomosphere, but also linked to the main Mandalay Bay hotel when you *do* want some action. You also have access to the Mandalay Bay facilities (such as the fab pool) when you stay here, and can charge your expenses to your room whenever visiting any of the other MGM-affiliated properties.

It is really way down on the south end of the strip though, so if you want something more centrally located, this may not be the best choice.
