Can you combine Amex Cruise perks & Cruise line offers?

Group of my friends and I are looking at putting together a 'friends vacation' for November of next year and are planning to do a cruise. While discussing options I remembered seeing stuff about the Amex Cruise Privilege program, and while looking at it, seems like they offer onboard credits, small perks, and bonus points. From what i can tell a balcony stateroom on Royal Caribbean gets $200 in shipboard credit from Amex, and currently RC has a deal offering $300 in credits. Do they stack? Some googling lead to mixed results but hopefully someone has some experience.....

Yes they stack. I have always gotten the AMEX platinum ship board credit as well as any other ship board credits the cruise line may be offering. I should say that I have only cruised with Regent and Silversea; not RC. But I would think RC would work out the same way.

I would check with the cruise line because sometimes they do not stack. I know on Seabourn for instance you cannot combine the Amex credit with their referral credit.

Does anyone have any current SA contact where I can contact to stack normal cruise benefits + amex benefits? Would really appreciate any suggestion. Thx!

This is very specific... does anyone have any experience with the Royal Caribbean onboard credits and using them at the casino? The T&C of the Amex program says that casino charges are excluded, but the Royal Caribbean site says that you can use OBC at the casino. There are some reports on CruiseCritic from a few years ago that you can use OBC at the casino with a 5% charge. So I'm trying to see if anyone has actually tried this.

Angry Cruise Privileges Program

I purchased an expensive cruise on my platinum card via my travel agent, who got the "confirmation number" from AMEX travel via Crystal Cruises.

I called AMEX MR customer service on June 8 and was advised I would receive double membership rewards points per the program for this charge.

I didn't.

Now AMEX MR customer service is saying it would have had to have been purchased via AMEX Travel. I referred to the June 8 call. They said they had no way of retrieving that recording.

Does anyone know about these program rules? Very frustrating experience to say the least as I could have booked it on my Chase Sapphire for 3X points and gotten the cabin credit through another promotion via my agent.

I read both to mean that while some of the benefits apply to travel agency bookings, the double points require booking through American Express Travel -or- a Travel Associate Platform Agency (I don't know how to identify such agencies.)

We just booked a Celebrity cruise and was told by our usual agent that we need to book direct with Amex Travel to get the OBC. They are no longer able to stack with their offers.

I don't care about the extra points, but without the OBC stacking, we might cancel the card because of this. The value is greatly reduced since we sometimes will take several cruises a year.

I guess persistence pays off! I went back and asked them to check with Amex anyways. Looks like it should stack with the other benefits we received! The agent mentioned that I'm the only one to ask them about the Platinum Cruise benefit since our last booking.

Amex Platinum Cruise Benefit Question

Hey Guys,

I book two cruises with my Chase Ink card and wanted to know if i get the Amex Platinum can i still get the on board credit? (One cruise has been paid for and second i still need to pay final balance). Has anyone paid partial balance and still received the credit? Will the Amex Platinum cruise credit remove my Diamond stateroom travel credit or can both be applied?

Thanks for your help.

It's not about paying with the card that gets you any perks. It's the rate at which you booked. You need to book the AMEX rate to get any bundled perks.

For the one you didn't complete final payment and there isn't a penalty to cancel, you can rebook with AMEX if the rate is similar.

I book luxury cruises via my TA all the time as have always received the $300 AMEX OBC - just need to pay for the cruise with the platinum card

BTW - I use a "discount TA" who always gets me great deals and rebates part of the fare back to me in cash

TA here. If you are booking a normal cruise rate and category, the Platinum benefits apply. Certain interline/discounted non publicly available rates are excluded.
The terms and conditions require the cruise benefit to be applied before final payment is made. Also the terms state payment must be made on the Platinum card.

I use a TA as well. However, the TA books a rate code that has the perks tied to it. I can't just go to NCL.com buy a cruise on my platinum card and get advertised OBC, right? How would the cruise line even know your form of payment was a specific card product.

The TA does have to use a specific rate code, correct. However, the TA also has to go to Amex and validate the Platinum card and provide the cruise line a verification number....
I am assuming Amex, could revoke the authorization # if you say cancelled your Platinum card, or say they did an audit and found you didn't pay for it with the correct card....
