Cancel the card. You won't have to pay the annual fee.

I am guessing that unless you are a celebrity or you are spending an ENORMOUS amount on the card, they will never reduce or cancel your fee. American Express has been very successful at raising "buzz" about this card. There are articles being written and people are clamoring to get one. They don't need to lower the fee. After all, both the fee and the spending qualification have both been raised substantially (Fee 1000 to 2500, spending from 150,000 to 250,000).

But right now, my only Amex is Blue, so I defer to others.

Angry there's also a joining fee for new cent amex members in hk

so they're making existing members feel like they've already made a big saving even though annual fee has been increased from hk$9800 to hk$19800!

i suspect they are offering expensive welcome gifts to new members though

Speak to CT-UK - I don't think he's ever paid his centurion annual fee in the UK.

Not waived but halved... I have a personal centurion and a business centurion (was corporate). With the beef industry the way it is I was going to cancel the business centurion as part of cost cutting measures. It's only $1k a year but that's $1k/year we don't need to spend. AMEX said that they'd give me half credit on that year's annual fee if I wouldn't cancel. So, I paid half the yearly fee, the business paid half and all was well. Now we'll see about NEXT year.

It's a Centurion Card Member's privilege to cancel the Card.

Reported on FatWallet that Amex was offering new members the Cent. card w/ fee waived first year. Can't independently verify this.

It would not surprise me if Amex offered to waive the first year annual fee on the Centurion Card for certain card members, who charge a very high volume on their cards.
