Amex Payment Date
I made a boo boo and didn't catch it until this morning. I paid another credit card off earlier than I usually would and didn't catch that the account I have set for amex autopay didn't have enough funds to cover the payment. Today is the payment date and it shows as processing. I sent money from another account which will hit by midnight. How long does it usually take for the payment to actually process? I know Amex can be sticklers with returned payments so I'm hoping once the funds hit tomorrow the payment will go through fine. Since the account is Schwab I don't have a way to hit an ATM and physically put money in the account. Looking at my old statements it clears from my bank 2 days after the payment date.

A version of this happened to me last year (my reason being forgot to set up autopay on a new account). I didn’t notice until the day after the due date. I made the payment, called the phone rep to explain and have them note it in my file, and everything has been cool with Amex then - approved for a new card and received a retention offer since then. So I recommend calling - I can’t guarantee it will prevent you from being dinged in some way but I don’t think it will hurt. I wouldn’t go into detail about the other cc payment, just indicate that you lost track of the due date in relation to other transactions on the account…
ETA: I would to see if your payment is actually showing up as late before making such a call. As you noted, the timing could work out fine in the end (and maybe that was what saved me rather than the phone call itself).I just wanted to provide some encouragement that all hope is not lost … |

My parents still use physical checks and they were able to write me one and send a photo of it and I deposited it though the app. Cleared after about 5 minutes so now there’s enough in there to cover it. |
