Took upgrades from everyday to everyday preferred last spring, annual fee hit now.
Player 1 10k MR for $2,500 spend in 3 months.
Player 2 15k MR for $3k spend in 3 months.
As I am working another minimum spend, delayed decision until first week in February before annual fee is due.
In any case, will downgrade back to everyday a year after upgrade to get prorated annual fee refund.

- My Business Platinum renewal at $695 hit on Jan 15.
- I chatted online with retention and the best they could offer was $100 credit.
- I checked my history and I received a $350 retention credit last year (Jan 2021) for this card.
- Questions:
- I'm assuming I'm out of luck for any larger credit or spend promotion based on the 13-month requirement.
- If so, if I call to cancel next month (after the annual fee has already been paid), will I be eligible for retention?
- I believe if I do cancel, because I'm a Massachusetts resident that Amex is required to refund the annual fee pro-rated?

Hilton Aspire
Had the card for many years, and never received a retention offer until this year (I always call and ask and always "no"). I have maxed out the benefits mostly (except the Hilton $100 property credit).
Offered 20,000 HH for $3k spend in 3 months. Accepted the offer.
I would've kept the card anyway, as the free night, and $250 Travel and $250 resort credit I use each year.

P2's retention chat today:
Biz Plat; 1st anniversary billed recently; offered $350 statement credit. Said we'll think about it. Probably will close unless they increase the offer soon.
Blue Biz Plus; Open for several years, first time asking for retenion. Offered $50 statement credit, no spend requirement. Accepted

AMEX plat retention offer - Jan 18
They offered either $400 or 40000 points after USD 3k spend in 3 months - I took the points offer, figured it's worth more than 1 cpp if i can get a transfer bonus to an airline partner

Guess I should be thrilled with my 15k offer for 1k. I use the card heavily for MQM bonuses and the BOGO FC ticket, but thought I was getting the short stick with my offer.

$100 credit off for $1500 spend... decided to cancel as I don't use the card much at all.

Seems like the 40k/3k deal is the standard for PLT card members.

AMEX Biz Plat - Was offered $695 statement credit to off-set fee. No spend or other requirements (Except to keep the card open for 12 more months and not downgrade), which was awesome!

One more - P2 has Schwab, not much spend, not too much use of benefits. Our big gripe is that they only allow in 2 guests to Centurion, for our family of four that effectively means that my wife never goes. Anyway, same offer - 40K for 3K spend. Accepted. Wife likes the free stuff, it seems just marginally worth keeping. (40K=~$450 + airline credit + priority pass + clear + audible > $550)
For us, the airline credit is meh, we don't do soulcycle, uber is a PITA to use here in burbs and got expensive - oddly, the one we've been getting use for is the audible credits. It's a keeper at $550 and 40K. But this year will be the last for us.

1 year = 12 months.
