I don't remember seeing the marketing section before when I went to turn off email alerts.
It was a while ago, so I don't recall exactly, but I no longer get "your offer is expiring" e-mails.

I started paying attention during COVID years. Now they have all but dried up.

I don’t think every offer triggers them. Perhaps it’s an optional feature that merchants get to pay Amex for. This came yesterday - not how it’s not even close to expiration:

Sender is “[email protected]” and subject is “Your <merchant> offer is expiring soon!”

The email address is used for other email notifications, so you probably will want to use both criteria to filter notifications.

There also the more generic "(name), Don't miss out! Redeem your offers." email with a slightly different sender of americanexpress at member.americanexpress.com

which lists multiple offers that have been added but not redeemed.

I don't filter any of these out though, because they amuse me (I'm easily entertained ) I enjoy thinking "oh yeah, I'll get right on that" for offers I added just to clear some space

Does anyone know if they will or usually add a WSJ offer? I used one last September and my renewal is coming soon and I won’t be paying 38.99 a month. So I’m hoping for an offer or I’ll have to cancel.

Actually, I wasn't getting just expiring offer emails but also confirmations when I signed up for them. Since I'm very good about checking all my accounts on a regular basis, I just have the filter automatically delete all emails from "American Express"...though sometimes these slip through for unknown reasons.

I get that for some (few) offers. One more reason for me to think that merchants have to pay extra for those marketing messages.

Or Amex’ IT is worse than I thought

No way to tell, nor if T&Cs would allow a discount of a renewal. Worse case, WSJ tends to offer a renewal promo, and for tax purposes, the subscription can be considered a business expense.

Regarding the missing Amex offer for grocery spend:

I enrolled in Amex offer for $5 off from $50+ on grocery spend. Credit posted for most of my grocery spend charges except for one.

5/20 charged
6/23 escalated via chat
8/8 $5 credit appeared

If you are still waiting on the grocery offer credit, I encourage you to reach out to Amex and have them open a case for you.

I got it too, but I don't know if it's a good deal or not.

99% of Amex Offers are not a good deal, unless you were already planning on purchasing from the vendor. Every so often there's 100% free offers so those are definitely worth it, like best buy $100 off $100 😁

In addition to this offer, I noticed another one recently for "Spend $500 or more, get $100 back / Fairmont Hotels & Resorts - Europe"

The T&C are a bit interesting though

Offer valid only at Fairmont Grand Hotel Geneva, Fairmont Monte Carlo, Fairmont St. Andrews and Fairmont Windsor Park. Reservations for Fairmont Hotels & Resorts must be made online at all.accor.com, Fairmont.com or directly in participating hotels. Valid only on purchases made in US dollars. Excludes all other Accor brands and Residence Clubs.

[...]

Qualifying purchase means a purchase at a participating Fairmont Hotels & Resorts property made during the offer period with your enrolled American Express Card and which is in an amount totaling at least $500 USD as posted to your account, following conversion from a foreign currency, if applicable, in accordance with your Cardmember Agreement.

I guess you could say the first bolded clause renders the second bolder clause not applicable, but it still seems weird for an offer limited to properties in Europe. Or is the first clause just boilerplate that someone forgot to remove when creating this geographically-specific offer... I tend to suspect the latter, but...?

(Mostly academic as I am unlikely to need/use this offer personally, but mostly curious in case it comes up in some future context of another brand I have more of an affinity for...)

I got a similar offer on my French Amex, spend 750 Euros get 125 back. But instead of Monte Carlo this one has Montreux.
