Your question is probably answered in this Wikipost
Reminder: you must enroll and select UA as your airline, then wait a day before making a reimbursable purchase. It can take a few days or a full week to be reimbursed.
Travel Bank: There'sa separate thread at this link for general discussion of Travel Bank. Travel Bank is available again Jan. 3, 2022 and posts as a Special Service Ticket reimbursed by Amex (but unofficially). May appear as United Electronic Ticketing or United Airlines Houston. Purchase here: https://www.united.com/offers/travelcash If your transaction returns a Payment Failed error, try adding your American Express card to your United Airlines profile, and repeat the transaction using the stored card. DO NOT CALL Amex to ask about being credited for this.
On December 31, 2021 United suspended Travel Bank deposit transactions and posted a message "Offer has ended."
United does not sell gift cards.
As of December 2016 American Express no longer reimburses MPX transactions.

Airline Taxes on Award Tickets Doesn't seem to work anymore; see post 179 http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/25297196-post179.html and #391
Economy Plus and First Class Upgrade Fees Subscription worked in Feb 2020, data point here. As of December 2016 there were conflicting posts; one stating that an upgrade to E+ coded as an "upgrade fee" and was, therefore, not reimbursed. Others said they were reimbursed as it was coded as "preferred seat upgrade." In February 2019, three separate FTer reported receiving varying amounts of reimbursement (dependent upon which card was used for the purchase) after purchasing an E+ annual subscription. The E+ subscriptions code as "preferred seat upgrade". Upgrading from E to FC will also not be reimbursed because it codes as a passenger ticket even when done after buying the original ticket. There seems to be a distinction between seat upgrades being reimbursed, while ticket upgrades are not.
Award AcceleratorI would not risk this. The last report of being reimbursed for Award Accelerator was for $68 on October 27, 2011. Every post about Award Accelerator since has reported "No reimbursement."
Eligible incidental fees include:

Glad to be here. I've been lurking and looking at DPs for these credits, and I'm happy to contribute something useful, although it's playing with fire!

There has always been a range for how quickly the airline selection updates! All other AmEx processes continue to be highly variable. It was a really pleasant surprise that the OP got lucky with the latest experience. But one DP does not translate to a change in expectations. It's BAU.

ETA: This doesn't only apply if one is aiming to use UA TB. The same would apply if one wants to pay for seat selections or luggage; there is no need to wait 24 hours after airline selection to make those purchases. A couple of years ago my dad had similar story to the OP. He paid for seat selections on UA and then realized that he hadn't selected UA as his airline. Immediately called and received the email confirming UA as his airline choice. Reimbursement for the seat payments posted as expected a few days later.

Reimbursement report for those that already had a bit of their reimbursement used. I already had $40 used on Delta, I couldn't remember for the life of me what it was. called Amex July 30, told them I wanna change to United agent said it could be a problem because some of the credit was used, but said no problem, changed it to United. I waited 2 days just in case Aug 1 I bought $200 in Mileagebank credit, used it that day to book a $360 flight. Aug 4 $160 credit posted for remaining amount of the $200 credit.
This is a cool hack, though really most years I just use it on Delta to fly my pet ATL MEX. I can also report that taxes on award tickets usually posts on Delta as reimbursement from my experience, but perhaps thats changed.

1) u changed from DL to UA with $160 remaining. always assumed amex agents wont do it. i guess YMMV.

also, not sure why people keep buying $100 x 2 for plat. single $250 works. limit $50 overspend? its the same system as aspire $250. smaller number of txn could help if there are any fraud alert high volume flags set in place.

Unless I am reading it wrong, I think they bought $200 of TravelBank, got the credit, then used the TravelBank to buy the ticket, so indirectly got the credit on the ticket

i hate how amex cards always have the same last 4 digits and UA tech is too stupid to see the difference.

Yes, most people want to spend exactly $200 on the plat and there's no $200 denomination. For the Aspire I've always done the $250 straight with no issue but there are those that will break that up too into 2 100 and 1 x 50.
