Amex USA (Centurion, Platinum, DL Reserve) Cell Phone Protection benefit added 4/1/21
https://www.americanexpress.com/us/c...rotection.html
Picked up by blogs this morning, I'm seeing.
Platinum (personal and personal flavors)
Biz Platinum
Delta Platinum Personal and Biz
Delta Reserve Personal and Biz
Terms say you need to have the cell phone line on a bill paid for on the card the month prior (so I assume paying in March would get you covered for 4/1 start date).
Cracked screen coverage with $50 deductible seems like the compelling reason to give up points (say, from a 5x or 3x card).

I’m currently using the IHG Premier only to pay for my cell phone service each month. That’s 1x points, but value 1x Amex more, and will switch to my Platinum card. From what I can see, the benefits between both cards are the same in terms of cell phone insurance. Makes me more confident to pass on Apple care with my new 12 pro max.

Great benefit here. If you consider even the cheapest cell phone insurance plans out there with higher deductibles I think you are REALLY offsetting the AF for the cards and this is just the cherry on top for me justifying to keep the Personal Platinum.
I can see some on verizon not liking they loose the discount verizon gives for autopay from a checking account (something I never switched to), but more than worth it I think.

That said, I will still move my phone’s Fi charges to the Plat card. I don’t think I have a card where the spend earns significantly more than 1 MR per dollar.

This is kinda funny: "What is NOT covered: . . . Eligible Cellular Wireless Telephones that are lost or Mysterious Disappearance"
"Mysterious Disappearance means the vanishing of an item in an unexplained manner where there is absence of evidence of a
wrongful act by a person or persons."
Call it the X-Files exclusion.

Cracked screen coverage is a pretty marginal benefit for me, give how the cost of repair for that where I am is around $70-80. Not sure the paperwork would be worth my time, given the $50 deductible.

I'm currently paid up about 3 months ahead of time on cell phone bill (currently have a $300 credit balance). However, I just changed autopay over to my Amex Platinum for bills/payments going forward.
Likely not needed, but a nice perk for doing nothing accept paying your bill with the card.

I believe this is pretty much in line with the Mastercard coverage, but it basically means what is covered is (i) theft, (ii) cracked screens and (iii) if you drop it in water and the phone gets damaged (less likely these days for many phones if you're able to retrieve it quickly).

Except when you consider the opportunity cost for those of us who have 5x points for wireless bills (Chase Ink for me). This would mean giving up 4 UR points per dollar for me (net: lose 5 UR points and gain 1 MR point). I've got the whole family on the Verizon account, which is around $200/mo. I value the 4x lost points at about 6 cents, so for me this coverage would effectively cost about $12/month. Given the $50 deductible, I'll pass.

A bunch of blogs have been saying this covers cracked screens - but the actual terms (https://www.americanexpress.com/cont...o_Benefits.pdf) seem to specifically exclude this:
Not sure what to think there...I mean, the terms seem pretty clear, but the blogs have almost all said cracked screens were specifically mentioned by Amex. What's not clear is exactly where Amex might have said that...
Cosmetic damage (i.e. superficial abrasions or scuffs) to the Eligible Cellular Wireless Telephone or damage that does not impact the Eligible Cellular Wireless Telephone’s ability to make or receive phone calls;
