AMEX Germany Discussion Thread
Hi all,
I was searching and there lots of questions about AMEX Germany here and there. So I thought I'd make one so we can all discuss it here. So I am a Canadian that's been living in Germany for about 2yrs now. I have a Canadian Plat and up until last year cancelled my Business Platinum but kept the Personal one. Needless to say I still haven't pulled the trigger for the German AMEX as for the time being I couldn't find a huge benefit especially with the Platinum, but that being said lately I was thinking of getting one of the lower tier cards with MR, such as the Green Card. Another thing I am thinking after COVID craziness is maybe start an e-commerce business and will definitely get the Business Platinum. Here is the CRAZY part of the Business Platinum here in Germany! These cards are FREE! There some sign up links that gives 100k bonus points too.
Edit AMEX Personal Plat is 660 and Business Plat is 700 but partner or supplementary for Business is free. Anyways thought I'd share some thoughts, I'm sure some folks here have more experience. |
I don't think they are free. The annual fee is EUR 700.

the private one is a bit cheaper around 660 EUR
and there are no cashback benefits, but Priority pass (not allowing airport restaurant visits), 200 EUR travel money and some Sixt Car Share vouchers (10*20EUR if you live in a city they r serving) |

Sorry didn't mean to confuse people. The cards are not free its more the supplementary cards are.

The Business Platinum card in Germany is better than the regular because not only do you get a personal card for free along with it, but the insurance is also valid regardless of charging the trip to your card.

I have applied for German AMEX card, does anyone know how long it takes?

I hope you took advantage of the recent MR sign-up bonus. It takes up to two weeks after you finish the Post-Ident.

Yes I did, 40k, I was also informed about the "Turbo" but I guess I will check that when the card arrives.
Since you mentioned 40K, I'm guessing you went for the gold card? |

The "Turbo" program is not something they advertise, but once you get the card, call and ask for the program to be activated. They'll do it on the spot and it costs 15eur/year.
Since you mentioned 40K, I'm guessing you went for the gold card? Yes, can't quite get the Platinum yet, can't see a 6k eur expense in 6months for now, plus the fee is too expensive for now. I still have my Canadian AMEX Plat. Also checked the AMEX Business, can't qualify for it for now, with the min 50k eur in revenue. Not to mention the 15k eur expense in 3months for the Plat to get the 100k points. |
I have been in Germany for about 7yrs, also from Canada. The German platinum Amex is more worthwhile, for Priority Pass and car rental insurance. The gold amex is pretty useless. MR transfer choices are very limited. No 1:1 Aeroplan here, or even to Lufthansa. Conversion rates to other programs are really poor. 600 Euro seems like a lot, but it is billed 50 Euro monthly so it is pretty much invisible. Free supplementary card is great, as it also comes its own separate priority pass card. The metal card is nice too. If only I could use these MR points....

That's awesome hopefully the will speak English, my German is sill not quite good. I guess I will definitely do it right away since I have a planned (small business) expense that I am putting on hold. Is the Turbo for both Gold and Plat? Tomorrow will be exactly 14 days since the Post-Ident.
