No more Gogo or Boingo on Biz Plat - Jan 1, 2020

A nice little missive on my Amex Biz Plat statement this month.

The hits keep coming for 2020...

Good catch. What are they replacing it with? Those were useful for CX Intl flights... meanwhile they raise the annual fees

I used these a lot, was a great perk.
That said, always seemed too good to be true.

the service is supposed to be, what $29.95 on international flights? So $300 in value for that one perk?

Not sustainable I’m sure. But fun while it lasted!

Curious to see if it comes back with Optio. (At least the Gogo credits, Amex seems to be done with Boingo.)

These third party benefits always end, and American Express does not simultaneously introduce new benefits. There will be new benefits, someday, but they won't be tied to these changes.

Fine by me - I'm already committed to cancelling this card at renewal.

But guys and gals, you have Wework now! They offer internet when you're on site!

I will miss even the "Preferred" plan from my personal plat. I didn't need it often but it was nice to have the faster internet in Phoenix and not have to watch an ad first.

And they got rid of giving prorated refunds of the annual fee for canceling before the renewal date, didn't they? Otherwise I'd cancel by the end of the year. But as it stands, a major reason for me renewing a few months ago is taken away and I've already paid a non-refundable fee for it.

That's a decent devaluation. Couldn't care less about Boingo, never used that. But I use all of my Gogo passes every year.

American Express Business Platinum To Lose Four Benefits Starting In 2020 (Gogo, Boingo, WeWork & Premium Roadside Assistance )

A big cut indeed!

Business Centurion lost the same four benefits, along with the annual fee doubling (and also lost the $200 airline credit!). I couldn't care less about the WeWork benefit, used GoGo and Boingo heavily (more upset about losing GoGo), and the roadside assistance led to my canceling AAA when I got the Platinum card years ago.

Looked into roadside assistance since this is going away and what American Express has called "Premium Roadside Assistance" (four incidents per year you don't have to pay for, versus the normal roadside assistance, which you do pay per incident) is a benefit of the Chase Sapphire Reserve Card, which I have. Net $150 fee per year if you use the $300 anytime/anywhere travel credit.

I'm not a big fan of how all of this was done by American Express.

There goes my plan to get the biz plat next year

I was planning on saving $199.99 for 10 passes on Cathay.
