Amex Platinum Travel Insurance (UK)

Hypothetical question here. With Hurricane Dorian bearing down on FL where would one stand if your airline (eg BA or VS) continued to operate to KMCO but due to the likely disruption to your plans (eg Disney closed, etc) you decide you donít want to travel. Is the cost of the trip and other booking claimable ?

I believe the terms are here. Is there specific language which you find ambiguous?

The summary box does include this:

What is not Insured?

Cutting short a trip due to lack of enjoyment or
adverse weather conditions

Depends whatís considered Ďadverseí I guess. A hurricane is definitely adverse and then some. The point Iím raising is that the airline might go, eg BA are flying to MIA today, DLH arenít. Different airlines accept different risks but one has to question at arriving at your hotel thatís in the path of a CAT 5 hurricane and whether all thatís potentially going to occur is going to impact on your stay to such an extent that itís questionable whether travel is sensible and one might end up significantly out of pocket....hypothetically.

Policies that allow the traveller to cancel due to conditions at the destination do exist. This doesn't seem to be one. I do not see any provision which covers not being able to stay in a preferred hotel or visit a preferred attraction. The only weather-related condition seems to be one that delays outbound transportation.

These are the actual terms:

You will be covered for the following:
Your Insurance Documentation The Platinum Cardģ - March 2019 Page 10 of 20
Up to £7,500 for Your unused travel, accommodation, excursions and leisure activities that have been Purchased on the Card Account, which are non-refundable or any fee You are charged to change them if You cancel,
postpone, change or abandon Your Trip, due to:
a) You, or a person travelling with You, or a person You are visiting for the main purpose of Your Trip, having an accident, suffering an unforeseen illness or dying before or during Your Trip;
b) Your Close Relative, or a Close Relative of a person travelling with You, or a Close Relative of a person You are visiting for the main purpose of Your Trip, having an accident, suffering an unforeseen illness or dying before or during Your Trip;
c) Your redundancy which qualifies for redundancy payments under current legislation;
d) You being called for jury service or being subpoenaed as a witness other than in a professional or advisory capacity;
e) Unforeseen severe damage to Your home or Your business premises if the damage caused is likely to be more than £25,000;

g) A delay of more than 12 hours on the outward leg of Your Trip as a result of industrial action, adverse weather, mechanical breakdown of public transport, or a transportation accident which means You no longer want to go on Your Trip.
