Has anyone ever seen a charge from ARCCORP (Airline Reporting Corporation)

I suddenly see a charge come up today for $281.45 on my AMEX and I could not make heads or tails out of it.
I call the customer service# for ARCCORP (Airline Reporting Corporation) who wanted to have a reference# to investigate (which AMEX does not have yet as it is just a pending charge). The reference # apparently starts with 890
The customer service also said that it was based off some Airline purchase I did recently. I don't recall any charge except for a United Airlines ticket which I already paid for and has been charged to my account.
The other tickets that I have purchased are BA Tickets 3 months ago and so I am at a loss as to what these charges are.

I tried doing a Google to see if anyone had ever seen this and I see no such threads.
I will be going on a trip outside US soon and want to make sure my Card is not hacked by someone and this is some legitimate charge about which I am not aware.

According to Wikipedia:

“The Airlines Reporting Corporation (ARC) is a company which provides ticket transaction settlement services between airlines and travel agencies (both traditional and online) and the travel management companies that sell their products in the United States.”

Have you booked anything through a a travel agent? 890 is the IATA code for them, like how 125 is for BA.

Looks very similar to the price of their travel conference in Leesburg, VA in October. If you booked it a while ago the price may have been a little lower. If you don't recognize it, start a dispute with Amex. If you are certain it's not you then you should report it as fraud and request a new card.

It's still pending, so there is no dispute to be had as of yet. If it does post as a charge, then you will have a reference number which you can check and then dispute or not as the case may be.

The ARC is an organisation that travel agencies in the US can get accreditated with, its a bit like IATA......after going through the formalities of accreditation, you get a number which you can then give to hotels etc when making bookings for your customers, which in return allows you to get commissions.

Their website is here.

One of the things they offer is their agencies to be able to process credit card transactions for their customers. In the US, the travel sector is considered a high-risk merchant so it can be hard to obtain credit card processing facilities. Here is a link for more info. I suspect that a travel agent has somehow obtained your credit card details and made a flight booking.

As others have mentioned, wait till the transaction has posted, then do a chargeback.

Hope this helps ^
