Buying a car with AMEX UK
Hi All,
I've found a few threads on this topic but none in the past 3 years or so, and thanks to the interchange cap things have changed quite a bit in the UK.
Does anyone know if there are any dealerships that will let you buy a car with AMEX? Either for the entire amount, or a certain percentage?
It would be a great way of racking up a few 2 4 1 vouchers...
EDIT: Sorry if this is the wrong forum - I'm not sure where it should go! But I found a few older threads on this topic in this forum and so felt it was the right place:
OT - Car dealerships that accept Amex....BA Amex
Buying a car in the UK - and using Amex

I know Ford take Amex, I paid for the deposit on Amex on a car a couple of years ago.
At first, they wouldn't accept it, despite the Amex logo being visible in the window, then they said it would be a fee of 5% or something stupid.
When I got up to walk out, they took it at a 1% fee, which I accepted.

I bought both my daughters a Renault Clio each on my Amex (a couple of years apart), so it is definitely possible. It was before credit card fees were outloawed, though. I paid around £13k for each and agreed a .75% credit card fee up front on each purchase. Whether or not it will still be possible in the era of no consumer fees, I don’t know, but I’m sure if you agreed a slightly higher price with your dealer, purely unconnected with the credit card fee, of course, they would oblige.

I paid about 25% of my car with Mercedes last year on an Amex (they were not pleased but it was one of my requests for the sale).
I always pay using the Amex for services without any problems at all.
