Buying a car with AMEX UK

Hi All,

I've found a few threads on this topic but none in the past 3 years or so, and thanks to the interchange cap things have changed quite a bit in the UK.

Does anyone know if there are any dealerships that will let you buy a car with AMEX? Either for the entire amount, or a certain percentage?

It would be a great way of racking up a few 2 4 1 vouchers...

EDIT: Sorry if this is the wrong forum - I'm not sure where it should go! But I found a few older threads on this topic in this forum and so felt it was the right place:

OT - Car dealerships that accept Amex....BA Amex

Buying a car in the UK - and using Amex

I know Ford take Amex, I paid for the deposit on Amex on a car a couple of years ago.
At first, they wouldn't accept it, despite the Amex logo being visible in the window, then they said it would be a fee of 5% or something stupid.

When I got up to walk out, they took it at a 1% fee, which I accepted.

Of course this would be unlawful now, so if they accept it then it should be free.

A BMW showroom near me did it recently, I think it's up to each showroom individually though as I have come across others that won't.

My local Mercedes dealership refused Amex for my service last week.

It is down to the individual dealership, they are all franchises so one BMW dealer may accept AMEX but another may not.

I bought both my daughters a Renault Clio each on my Amex (a couple of years apart), so it is definitely possible. It was before credit card fees were outloawed, though. I paid around £13k for each and agreed a .75% credit card fee up front on each purchase. Whether or not it will still be possible in the era of no consumer fees, I donít know, but Iím sure if you agreed a slightly higher price with your dealer, purely unconnected with the credit card fee, of course, they would oblige.

I paid about 25% of my car with Mercedes last year on an Amex (they were not pleased but it was one of my requests for the sale).

I always pay using the Amex for services without any problems at all.

SHop around to which car company you want and where you want to buy.

If Mercedes some will check will the garage and talk to them first.

Again not too sure this thread is particularly on topic but BMW Inchcape dealers will take Amex (no fee) for car purchase.

My Boxsterís deposit was paid with Amex, but my BMW dealer wonít take it for servicing. Very much down to the dealership.

My mate paid his deposit of £9k on Amex at Brentford Mercedes.

He could probably have paid for the whole car on Amex but he decided to do finance for some reason.
