Interesting. The article completely omitted the HSBC Premier World Elite MasterCard that also does not have foreign transaction fee.

This is my preferred card when I travel outside of Canada.

I believe it is referencing cards with no foreign exchange fees and no annual fee. HSBC has an annual fee.

The HSBC comes with a $100 travel credit, similar to the Amex Platinum. So it is effectively free for Premier customers or $50 for non-Premier customers.

Amex Platinum also silently lost the Platinum Dining benefit which brought garanteed amenities (such as a free sude dish or drink, or an upgraded table) at partner restaurants when booked through the concierge (sometimes just flashing the Plat card was sufficient)

Now they silently eliminated this benefit and replaced it with "Global Dining Collection" smoke&mirror which has fewer partner restaurants and doesn't spell out which amenities one is entitled to.

Hopefully they will not increase the fee! Also would love it if they waive the foreign transaction fee. Partially living in EU would have love to use the card for big purchases.

I think there's very little chance that they won't increase the fee. Or, they may keep it at $699 but change the $200 travel credit into something more restrictive like they have in the US.

As cool as the "Metal card" factor is, it's a novelty. I'd rather have a plastic card that has new upgraded benefits rather than esthetics.
Now if they include the "fancy suitcase" then I'd say that's something! LOL

Relaunch details

I just signed into my platinum card account and saw some of the new details:
- 3 MR/$ on dining, 2 MR on travel & 1 MR on everything else
- same annual fee and travel credit

I don't see any other changes yet but I'm going to take a closer look.

Still some work to do- still mentions Starwood hotel membership for example...
As a middle-Cdn, will need to see if the metal card exceeds the current plastic in removing frost from the truck windows

I logged in and did not see an option to request the Metal Card, I called in and the processed over the phone; only unfortunate thing is that the last 4 digits will change

Thanks for that info, especially about the last 4 digits - that will be a factor in deciding if I want to switch to a metal card.

Do I remember correctly that we used to get 1.25 point/$1 on all purchases?
