Bad news for AA flyers at LHR

AA moving everything to terminal 5 so no chance to use Centurion lounge anymore even when it does open

The bad news is the pandemic that prompted this change. Lounge access is the least of my concerns.

Discussion of AA move is here: https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/amer...0-w-ba-ib.html

From the Wikipost of that thread: AA is expected to remain until Terminal 3 is reopened once flight operations increase to the point T-3 is needed, which would not impact Centurion lounge access, but some posters think the move to T5 is permanent.

A quick search shows that AC doesn't fly out of T3. I'm not very familiar with LHR's layout. If I fly AC, what's the best way to get to T3 and back?

AC goes from T2. I don't think transfers airside at LHR are particularly easy, and I'm not sure what kinds of checks are done along the way (if one can go back and forth without appropriate BP)....

Would be really interested to find out. I'm sure there are plenty of LHR experts here.

Same trip, at MIA - no such service!

The last time I saw this was at SFO in Feb. I've been to that Centurion Lounge the most. They do reserve tables for Centurion cardholders.

I agree. I love the food there. I've had the opportunity to have tried breakfast, lunch, and dinner there. Absolutely fantastic food. It's a bit on the small side though.

Not sure what you're talking about. In terms of food, I would say the HK Centurion Lounge is as good as any CX business class lounge in HK if not better. I'm not a OWE so I haven't tried the first class lounge in HK.

LHR is a different beast than LGA. I expect that a lot of Amex Plats/Centurions entitled to use airline lounges for LHR T3 departures will start skipping the use of some of those airline lounges and default to using the Amex lounge there. At LHR T3, I probably will be one such person doing so and repeating it most weeks of the year unless and until the lounge offering is poor(er) in one or more ways than the airline lounges which I can use as an alternative.

The Amex lounge may even incentivize me to use LHR T3 more than I already do.
I agree with you on LGA, but that will change in the future. I was there in February and they told me they'll be moving airside in the future.

Although this has been the case for at least a few weeks, there is a banner with the text "The Centurion Lounge is coming soon to London Heathrow Airport" on the Centurion Lounge homepage. I know that's not of great probative value but we can toss it somewhere in the "better than nothing column".

I will be flying out of LHR in early October so I will remain cautiously optimistic about my chances here.

I stumbled across this August 14 article in my continued stalking of this lounge. The progress of this lounge is still unclear but from the language used in this article it seems as if the designer had completed its work? I would be curious to know whether or not the images which were yanked down were promotional renders or photos of completed work. I think it is doubtful that the lounge will up and ready for my October visit but, I am ever the optimist, so I will hold on to that sliver of remaining hope...

Edit: Just pulling on the "Elegant Clutter" thread a little, it seems that they've been working at this for some time now. Here is an article from about a year ago which mentions their work on the Heathrow lounge in passing.

Flew back out of LHR today and the Centurion is billed as coming soon on the info board. I was pretty fried after this trip (two weeks and two marathons in Europe) so I neglected to poke around the A area to check on the state of construction. For what it’s worth, the No. 1 Lounge (Priority Pass offering) was more than decent.

At LHR you are only allowed to enter the terminal you are departing from, even if you arrive in T3 to connect to AC in T2, you cannot enter a T3 lounge and must go immediately through flight connections to T2.

Centurion Lounge LHR Now Open!

Lounge is now open today as of 11am local time, according to a post I saw on TPG! A shame if the last poster is correct and those departing from other terminals will be unable to enter the lounge. At JFK, they certainly allow you to enter T4 for the lounge even if flying out of a different terminal.

lol - looks like I missed it by one week! I wonder if they have any opening day SWAG?

Still great to see lounges opening up across the network. Here is the TPG Article for those looking for a peek.

Here is my own take, having also been on the press tour yesterday - https://www.headforpoints.com/2021/1...throw-airport/

It's probably a more realsitic comparison of this lounge vs the others in T3.
