However, all of sudden in February none of the transactions posted as 4X points. I contacted AMEX and about a week later was able to finally get an answer. AMEX told me they stopped this merchant from posting as 4X in January because they sell items other than groceries. This is ridiculous since they literally only sell groceries. This is just one example of so many charges I have had posted incorrectly. I almost never have a problem with travel and dining coding with Chase but I have had so many problems with AMEX coding. This is my first membership rewards card and when taking into account issues correctly coding bonus points combined with the slow posting of points I am so far unimpressed.
AmEx can only code the most common stores in its categories. I had purchases at local baking store, ice cream shop and local produce. All were not coded correctly. I called service rep and she manually adjusted those. She said some will be coded in its system and some won't. There are just too many to include.

It is fine with me. There is no perfect system. If I get 4x on $2,000, I can skip the $20 purchase. There is the $25,000 limit anyhow.

The $25k cap is actually good for majority of the people. Some people abuse almost everything and the CC companies have to spend resources to stop them. I'd rather have the cap than AmEx catching up on any large purchases frequently.

If you really love the 4x, get the 2nd card and you get a fresh $25k. We still need to ramp up the spending on our 2nd PRG card. But it is still early and we get a lot of time.

Someone can cap the $25,000 per year. Or about $2,000 to $4,000 each month if in a hurry.

Anyone know how the dining credit works at month end? During Jan and Feb my $10 transaction credit always posted in the same month as the actual transaction with Grubhub, ShakeShack, etc.. In March however, my charge was put through on the AMEX as Grubhub on 3/31 but the $10 credit didn't post till 4/3. Can I be safe to assume that this would correctly be applied to my March credit since that is the day of the transaction? Or do I need to call them to sort this?

That's fine as long as the fully posted GH charge still shows 3/31 date

You can check "benefits" page for credit left this month: https://global.americanexpress.com/c...=MYCA_Benefits

Agree it seems to depend on posting date of the GH charge. I happened to order Seamless on 2/28 already having gotten my Feb credit, and the Seamless charge posted as 3/1 and ended up triggering and using the March credit.

My 3/31 charge (also Cheesecake - just in time for March ^) posted on 4/5 so I would give it another day or two; especially if a couple of your days include the weekend.

month end is very risky as you know. just like amex airline credits. for airline credits, there are DPs about 12/31 transaction date (not post date) actually working for the prior year even tho it posts in the new year. however, for amex PRG dining, its very different. the TC is very very clear about post date being critical vs transaction date.

https://www.americanexpress.com/us/c...-0#offer-terms
American Express relies on the merchant to process transactions within the same calendar month that you made the purchase in order to apply the $10 monthly statement credit in the month that it was intended. For example, if you make an eligible purchase on the last day of the month and the merchant doesn't process that transaction until the next day, the transaction date will reflect the next day's date and the statement credit would be applied in the following month.

i have messed up twice already and made the transaction on the last day. the post date was in the new month and the credit was applied for the new month vs the prior month. I had to make a phone call each time. plenty of people still clueless about this and spreading wrong information.

You're right that it's tricky with restaurants as they can end up running the transaction the next day. I guess I got this last one to post on 3/31 as all I did was purchase a gift card at the front counter so no need to run at the end of the night to account for tips or other adjustments maybe.

Stupid question but if I add an AU (my nephew), can I limit his spend on this card like other Amex cards I read about? Or is it not possible since its a charge and not credit?
I currently have a chase issued in his name that we have never given him since I cannot set a limit and he is well, not the most responsible money wise teenager LOL but we have one just in case of emergency travel etc. I have discussed with his mom getting an Amex since i read on here that you can usually set a max spend amount. I just got an offer for 5k points if I add an AU so wanted to know this important fact before I mentioned it to her.

Just another data point (actually shocking) - almost all of my charges in the Vegas casinos and clubs (no bottles) coded as 4x....pretty awesome and wasn't expecting such a high hit-rate.
