How long after the purchase did it take to receive the credit?

FYI for folks - I was thinking that as a new Grubhub customer, I could stack the $10 amex gold benefit with the $10 referral promo code. The $10 referral promo code is for delivery only.

There are 2 particular restaurants in question which have earned 2x in the past. Just stopped giving me the bonus when the card switched over on Oct 4th. Strange.

As an aside, I've noticed that any place that uses Square payment processing does not give out bonuses, regardless of the category. Like, I can get 4X at Chipotle, but not at a high-end cafe where I'm ordering a salad and a panini but paying via Square. Wonder why?

Pretty sure Square allows the owner of the payment processing device to choose their own MCC. If they choose something like "retail" instead of "restaurant" then AMEX isn't going to know to process you for restaurant bonus spend.

I received 2x points for a towing service I used. I wonder if that coded as a gas station? It is an auto repair center. If id have known that I would have gotten my car repairs there. They ran into the thousands. (I know, no longer any 2x gas points)

Depends when you opened the account, but you may earn the gasoline bonus for another year:

Did you actually dine at the restaurant or bought cakes?

The T&Cs said GC and merchandise are not eligible. I wonder how the restaurant would separate those transactions from dine in / take out. Haven't seen any restaurant handles transactions differently.

As i mentioned before, rep told me to get Rose card in order for my wife to get hers. Then I can call back and request the gold one after I confirm cards. I would receive a gold card and my wife keeps the Rose card. Per yesterday rep, I was told that I was given wrong info. If I switch back to gold then my wife has to switch back too. So I did the switch back. He also ordered me two Gold cards. My question is can my wife still use the active Rose card if she doesn't activate the new gold card? Or her Rose card will eventually stop? I wish was given correct info from the beginning so I have to through all these cards.

That's correct. I also find that many merchants using Square don't even put in an MCC.

I wonder what is the advantage of Square over other payment processing services? Square is not cheap, charges a flat rate of 2.75% for either chipped or swiped transactions. Manual key in incurs higher fee at a whopping 3.5% + 0.15cents.

The only advantage seems that the merchant gets the device for free, without having to invest in a POS processing system.
Kiosks at the Malls are the merchants I see use Square almost universally. I have not come across Square payment method at a regular restaurant, but seen it being used at some ethnic grocers which all impose a minimum $10 to use credit cards.

I can confirm I never get category bonus at those ethnic grocers but I only shop there when I really in need of some ingredients, so it does not matter.

There are also no long-term contracts involved. Because of that, Square is good as something to help get your business off the ground quickly and ensure that it'll last longer than a year or two.
