As others have noted ...
French Laundry may also not get credit then. It is a place where you drop your clothes off

MCC's are generally selected by the merchant's acquirer (the company that processes their card transactions). It's possible that the person who did the setup made an error, but it's unlikely that American Express can change it without the acquirer's participation.

Yes, generally, but it must be understood that even then, many acquirers/MSPs base their MCC decision on what the merchant reports to them. And (as is obvious from this thread), less generally, some MSPs (like Square) allow merchants to decide the MCC themselves.

No, I know from personal experience that AMEX will change the MCC unilaterally. The policies with AMEX are much more nuanced than, say, Visa/MC, due to AMEX's much greater transactional control. For example, even for lower-volume AMEX merchants who work through an acquirer/MSP, AMEX requires those merchants to report the most accurate MCC to AMEX directly if the acquirer/MSP is not attributing the most accurate MCC.

Here's a bit of potentially useful info:

Just bought a prescription from the pharmacy at the local Publix grocery store. Received quad points. : ) Evidently there is no separate account code for the pharmacy.

On the other hand, bought a meal at the cafeteria in the National Gallery in Washington. Coded as National Gallery, not food. No quad points.
: (

If I ask for a gold card for an authorized user on my account, can it be the rose gold variant?

It's reported and confirmed that all cards on the account must be the same color. If you still have a plastic card, I don't know if ordering a Rose Gold supplementary card would trigger replacement of your own card, but if you have the Yellow Gold metal version the supplementary card will be the same.

All of my grocery purchases (at Vons) are coding as 4x....4x restaurants, lol. No complaints - I'm receiving my bonus points - but it brings into question as to whether AMEX has a coding issue.

Then again, maybe it was just easier to code all 4x purchases as one category.

Sorry, I somehow managed to take out a portion of the text on my post.

I have a Platinum card. My authorized users can get gold cards at no charge. Can those cards be rose gold?

No, those will be plastic Gold cards that earn the same rewards as your Platinum card. The supplementary Gold cards on a Platinum Card account do not have the benefits or rewards of the card discussed in this thread, which is a separate product.

I just wish the ethnic grocer where we spend 50% of our grocery money because it has fresh fishes from the Caribbeans, would be recognized by AMEX and awarded 4x. TD and Chase, both Visa, have no issue to award the correct pts - TD 2x all the time, Freedom 5x during its quarterly promo. It also shows on AMEX as Grocery Store but it always is just 1x. I am tired of calling AMEX to get this fixed and settle at only earning 2x.

Right, I didn't expect the gold cards on my platinum account to earn anything different, I was just hoping that they could be the rose gold ones.

Alas, I'm not interested in applying for another card at this time, so I guess I will miss out.

i did this twice already. they setup a claim with membership rewards and 1 or 2 days later you will receive a call from a amex toll-free number. they just confirm all the places where the issue is happening and the next time you stop by it will register as 4x.
Interesting. Theres a Poke place I go to every week for lunch. I did this, we'll see if it gets fixed...

I'm trying to max out grocery spend for 2018. Terms say the $25k cap is by calendar year, so as long as I get everything posted by Dec 31, it counts, right? For some reason, I felt like I saw some comments on Reddit about manipulating statement cut dates? Mine ends on the 9th of each month, so I'm just hoping the rest of this month's grocery "spend" isn't for nothing.

Holy cow, and here I am worried when I spend $300 two or three times this month when VISA/MC gift cards go on sale at safeway!!

I assume you're buying gift cards? Or something more "legit" ? (Stocking up on liquor, etc? :P)

My daughter turns 13 on NYE. For her bday, I'm added her as an AU with a $200 limit on my rose card. Happy birthday sweetie, hope you like the card.
