Australia: AMEX Platinum yearly fee increasing

I have an Australian issued AMEX Platinum in my third year. I have received mail that the yearly fee will increase from $1200 to $1450. That is an increase of around 18 percent.
I have been happy to date with the value. Does anyone else think this rise is excessive?

EDIT: Is the USA issued card increasing as well?

They increased our fee from $450 to $550 last year, so about 22%. Granted $550 USD is ~$750 AUD so we can't really complain vs y'all down under!

What is the average swipe fee down there? Is there some type of government regulated cap?

IIRC a lot of these fees are passed to the consumer...
