Question on booking airline ticket with MR points, then canceling
Yesterday I booked 1 $980 UA ticket for 98k MR points. Maybe not the best ratio, but I didn't feel like spending $980 right now. Anyway, they told me I have 24 hours to cancel, but that I would get back the $980 instead of the points back to my account. OK, fast forward to this morning and it occurred to me that if I did cancel and get the $980 back, I could immediately book the same tickets on the UA site (its still the same price) and then earn 4900 MR points back (my platinum card), thus making the purchase cost me 93100 points total. I've got about 3 hours left to cancel, so just wondering if I'm missing something that will make my plan a bad idea.
