So was I dumb or smart to get the AMEX SPG card and 75k points on August 15th? This was before I got introduced to this whole points hacking thing. And if I read the thread right - I need to wait 90 days to get the Marriot rewards card? I am under the 5/24 rule with Chase.

So I also changed my mind and went ahead and applied under the 125k bonus offer, as it'll take me all of next year to earn UA Gold (and by extension MR Gold) and I figure in that timeframe I'll spend at least $300 on a Marriott room *somewhere*. Well, that and a 50k points cert is a lot more flexible than a 30k points cert. I dunno, maybe I'm crazy and should have gone for one of the regular Marriott cards instead. Someone tell me I'm crazy. Worst case scenario I downgrade next year?

Oh and if your local post office sells gift cards, you're in good shape

My Luxury card arrived today by UPS overnight. I was approved on Saturday. It's a nice looking card with the dark purple color though it's definitely on the flimsy side. Oddly it's showing my member since date as 2018 when all of my other Amex cards have my actual member since date of 2007.

It hadn't changed as of yesterday but as of today Amex.com is now showing the last 4 digits of my new SPG number, which is reassuring. August points haven't posted yet, but that's something anyway.

Applied for the SPG Lux card and got the 14 day message. I have 5 AmEx credit cards, so that's probably why. May need to figure out which one to close. I currently have SPG Personal, SPG Bus, Blue Personal, Hilton Aspire (just got in Feb.) and Hilton Bus (just got in May). I never use my Blue personal card, but I have had it since 1988 so I'm reluctant to close it -- am I wrong on that? If it doesn't make sense to close my Blue personal card, I probably will choose between my SPG personal card or my SPG bus card - thoughts on which one is better to keep-- the bus card? Thanks.
I then asked if I can just upgrade. He said not possible. So I told him to just cancel the application for the lux and I will hold on to the personal.. Am hoping for an upgrade offer before the end of the year.
I have no Marriott cards.

A) Its been confirmed by Starwood Lurker that any spending on SPG card this year would count towards spending on the Lux card.
B) Upgrading seems to be available for SPG personal card holders.

I signed up for the SPG Business Amex and linked it to my Marriott Rewards number. Does anyone know if it is possible to add authorized cardholders and have their spend linked to their own Marriott Rewards accounts? Or do all points based upon spend across all cards have to flow up to the primary card holder?
My business partner and I each spend a fair amount on Marriott/SPG stays and I'd rather avoid having to open two separate accounts.

Does anyone else think that the 12-16 weeks to reflect Platinum status once the spending requirement on the card has been met, seems like a ridiculously long time?
I mean , thats a quarter to a third of a year!!
You'd think one billing cyle would be enough to get that done in this day and age.
