I saw the same thing this morning. Is that permanent? I don't remember any correspondence on that topic....

Exhibit A:
It is a good deal at TLV Hilton. 70k points per night now means 35k MR points. That equals 350 dollars of value. Rooms are 550 per night. 200 dollar savings. Seems reasonable to me. Nothing compared to the old points + $$ value but still works for us.

Compared to airline miles that you can transfer MR to? That would be 1.6cpm, which isn't a good deal by any stretch of the imagination.

Just because it's not the greatest cpm doesn't mean it's not useful for someone else. There's always the endless debate about the "best" use of points, and cpm is just one of many metrics that can be used to measure utility.

So is American Express going to keep devaluing their points over time, or....?
The company should be focusing on how to improve their perks, not reduce them. They need to separate themselves from the rest of the pack to be successful since their acceptance isn't as good.
I agree with this analysis. Not everyone values the same partners the same way. UR's are of great value to most people, but other than Hyatt I don't have much use for them. If Syracuse NY had Southwest as an airline at Hancock airport, SW points would be pretty valuable to me, however. I don't see much use out of United, nor do I fly internationally.

If Hilton Honors points are valued 0.6 cpp, then you're getting 1.8 cents per MR point, not a bad deal, but obviously not the greatest compared to what the "experts" can get with flights and all that. The value is certainly better than 1:1 Marriott.

Few important things to keep in mind when looking at HH points is to be sure to include the taxes/fees/surcharges in the room rate. I recently got 1cpp from a hotel in Florida during peak season when factoring in the resort fees and the insane 12% tax they levvy down there.
