I have a big dinner I host coming up. It will be about $10,000 which will get me 50,000 MR's, which will turn to 25,000 SPG Points. Very good return. I use this card for all restaurant purchases, but the Gold Rewards AMEX is still better for all travel.

Did you self refer yourself for an application? That's how I received 5,000 bonus points a few days ago.

Does anyone know if meal kit delivery services like Chef's Plate or Hello Fresh count as "eats" for 5x points?

That's amazing! I managed to earn 50,000 MRs in just over two months from my food and restaurant spending, plus bonuses, plus the big December promo they had for 10x. I love this card, and intend to use it exclusively wherever they take Amex. I may hang onto my SPG Amex for my Marriott spends, but not if I have to pay the annual fee...

Are there any channels (referrals, certain portals) through which it's still currently possible to get the 40,000 point signup bonus?

I'd like to get this card but I'm no particular rush... if the 40K bonus is unavailable at all, I'd be willing to wait a while to see if it returns.

No word on the 40K, but you can still get 30k (2500 for each month you spend $500). Just the bonus 10K went away January 31.

you can via SPG, your options are:

1> 180 AMEX MR --> 90K SPG --> 270K Marriott --> 120K AP or most FF (or 132K UA) + 7-night CAT 1-5 Cert

2> 40K AMEX MR --> 20K SPG --> 25K AP or some FF (noted for UA, only get 12.5K with this method)

True, but those are terrible conversion rates; especially since the AMEX gold and platinum convert to AP and BA 1:1

Occasionally Aeroplan has 30% transfer bonuses from hotels - if you're not in a hurry and redeem during the bonus you can convert 20,000 SPG points to 32,500 Aeroplan.. gets a little bit closer @ 0.8125:1 .

good to know!
i still feel a bit deceived by AMEX, though i guess it was there in the fine print. i wasn't aware that there were different tiers of MR conversion options

Yeah, but if your major spends are for food, the 5x each dollar spend still makes it a better deal.

I'm lovin my Cobalt and plan to transfer all my points to Marriott. It's such amazing value for some VERY expensive hotels! And you can reserve NOW - and have time to save up the points and earn the e-certs later! LOVE it!

I called customer service about Ritual and they said that it is wrong and I should have received 5x points for all my purchases. They are going to work with the back-end team to fix it. Said it should take about a week and put a note on my account. Hopefully that works as it would be a huge miss not to 5x ritual food purchases.

I wish I could earn 5x points on ALL food purchases, regardless of the merchant. I know it would be too hard to 'code' that, but there should be a way. I buy so much food at Walmart...
