In June 2017, the American Express International Airline Program changed to a discount program, rather than "buy one get one free".
https://www.americanexpress.com/us/t...ram/index.html

To research and book, you can
1) Call Platinum Travel Services (1-800-525-3355) or Business Platinum Travel Services (1-800-553-9497). $39 booking and change fees apply
2) As of October 18, 2018, customers can use Live Chat to receive quotes. Log into your account at www.americanexpress.com/travel
3) As of May 2019, customers can log into www.amextravel.com and search and book some IAP fares. Not all carriers participate in online bookings, and not all fares appear online. (Relevant FlyerTalk thread 1 Relevant Thread 2)

The program is available on International First, Business and Premium Economy Class tickets booked through American Express Travel, on both refundable and non-refundable fares.
Good for purchases of 1 to 8 tickets on participating airlines.
Use Pay with Points for all or part of you fares, plus you still get miles from the airline.
Subject to $39 servicing fee per ticket for Platinum card members when calling.

"Travel must originate in and return to U.S. gateway (may exclude certain overseas territories) and select Canadian gateways. One-way travel permitted on some airlines where routing originates in U.S. or select Canadian Gateways." Known to include YVR, YYZ.

It was suggested that a Wikipost be written to try and collect past and example discounts, as the fares themselves are unpublished. The discounts vary, sometimes widely, based on availability, fares, and sales. I've broken it down into ranges, and sorted by the number of reports. I also combined AF/KL/DL as they have joint ventures TATL so it's hard to say from all posts which metal members were reporting. My calculations for discount ranges do not intentionally include the $39 booking fee.

I just searched for YVR-LHR in business at the end of the year. Flight on KLM is supposedly discounted from $5217 to $4,356 (don't know which currency) under IAP benefit.

Didn't you already ask this, and get replies, posts 439-446 earlier in the thread?

This is the USA thread, and IAP fares must originate and end in the USA (open jaw are okay, even returning to different cities, but both in USA). Sorry!! (oh but if you do need a search of a USA route PM me some dates).

As discussed previously, the IAP terms say:

"Travel must originate in and return to U.S. gateway (may exclude certain overseas territories) and select Canadian gateways. One-way travel permitted on some airlines where routing originates in U.S. or select Canadian Gateways."

and observationally this includes at least YVR and YYZ.

Oh, awesome. I'm glad to be corrected! Did you get your test search done? I'll log in later today if you PM me.

Fare class for tickets purchased through IAP

If I purchase a business class fare on Untied via the IAP program, is it the equivalent of a United P class fare? I just need to make sure purchases through IAP are fully credited for their PQP values as part of United’s ridiculous Premier Program changed.

TIA,
Eric

Is it just me or is anyone else seeing IAP pricing for economy fares?

I was searching LAX-LON yesterday for a quick weekend trip and saw some BA fares that had the IAP highlighting over them. I compared the same fares on the BA.com website and the amextravel.com website was pricing out about 10% lower.

Eric, you might note that Austrian, Lufthansa, Swiss, and Singapore Air are on the IAP, and starting in 2020 I know at least some if not all StarAlliance partners will earn PQP. What I can't tell you is what fares they book into, but in 2020 it might be worth re-evaluating.

I am seeing IAP pricing for economy fares on British Airways. So far, I have only seen pricing for flights that are BA-operated as well as BA-marketed, whereas for W/J/F, you can get IAP pricing for BA marketed / AA operated, etc.

I am not sure there is necessarily a reason not to offer it, so hopefully it sticks around. It provides a reason to use Amex Travel vs. booking directly with the airline.

I need 8 seats JFK-MOW/KBP, and would like to use "pay with points" for at least some of them. Trouble is the account that has AmEx Plat is my wife's, and she has ~300K pts. Is there any way to access the points in my account (500K) for this? I've had both pers and biz Plats, so not eligible.

You can apply for a new Platinum or Business Platinum card account, but you (probably) will not receive the new account bonus.

I get IAP pricing as a Platinum card authorized user -- do AUs get the points rebate on the biz plat as well?

I was actually under the impression that any MR card could use pay with points, but only platinum card users got IAP pricing when paying with cash.
