Data Point:

I accidentally purchased a business class ticket on Expedia instead of on the airlines portal. I still received 5x points for the fare (thank goodness!) because it showed on my statement that the airline billed Amex directly.

Correct, and this is typical, but if the agency were to bill you the bonus would not be triggered.

Are there any scenarios where closing an Amex platinum would put my recently received 60K bonus points in jeopardy?
  • Opened my Amex plat in July 2018 (and paid the $550 AF).
  • When I get hit with the AF again (July 2019) I want to close it, then reopen a new personal platinum account but do it via an offer I receive from being a Corporate Green card holder. This offer is essentially all the same benefits as a normal personal plat, but also include an annual $150 statement credit to the plat card which I'll get every year I continue to be a corporate green holder.

I can't remember where, but I thought I read comments that it was frowned upon to close an account quickly. Perhaps my 12 month want is acceptable though.

Canceling after a year should not put your bonus points at risk. The updated AMEX T&C's regarding gaming/abuse state something to the effect that if one closes a new card in less than a year.....bonus at risk of clawback, forfeiture of points, etc.

Is there any refresh of this card coming soon, like the PRG? Losing free Delta Sky Club access in 2019 kind of sucks. Seems a PRG is way more useful than this card.

Huh? The SkyClub access changes apply to people who had access without a same day DL ticket (DL reserve, SC members, and the $29 entry for Amex cobrand cards). Shouldn't have any impact on Plat access since we already needed a same day DL ticket for access.

Wasn't there an impact where guests now cost money? $29/pp?

That change might as well be ancient history with the pace of things nowadays, since it happened 4 years ago.

$200 airline credit - is it also divided in 6 months or can you make a single 200 dollars purchase? I opened amex in October and thinking to buy a ticket on Jetblue before the year ends. Ticket is 300 bucks.

Airline TICKETS are NOT eligible for reimbursement as part of the $200 credit. It is more for other things such as seat selection, baggage fees, etc. It can vary by airline. There is usually a thread on this forum discussing what has worked for each airline.

The $200 airline fee credit is per calendar year (Jan-Dec). You can use it all at once if the purchase is large, or over multiple purchases. Make sure to nominate your chosen airline for the credit on the amex website before yoy purchase anything.

The airline credit is not divided into six month increments (like the Saks credit). However, the airline credit - per the AMEX T&C's - is for airline incidental charges (seat assignment fees, onboard food/beverage, baggage fees, etc.) In the overwhelming majority of cases, you will not receive the credit if you purchase an airline ticket expecting to be reimbursed.

If you don't anticipate racking up $200/year in incidental charges, there are some loopholes: primarily, airline gift cards. There are several threads that address in what denominations gift cards can be purchased from which airlines to obtain the statement credit. Here's the thread for Delta:

https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/amer...l-only-34.html

I suggest reading the wiki at the top of that thread. In that wiki (bottom right corner), you will find links to other similar threads for different airlines: United, American, Delta, JetBlue, Southwest, etc. Reading those wikis and the associated threads will give you a good idea for what you can expect to be reimbursed on which airlines. Tickets are not one of the reimbursable expenses.

I read those threads and in case of jet blue it seems like people get reimbursed for actual ticket.

If you decide to try it with a ticket, please let us know whether it was successful. (Don't forget to choose your airline prior to making the purchase.)

Good luck!
