Booking AA via AMEX for less than aa.com?
TPG posted an article recently about Amex signing a deal with AA to allow platinum cardholders access to special fares. Has anyone tried to use this benefit yet? How did it go?

I believe you have to call the Platinum Concierge to access the fares. Been reports of agents having no clue what the caller is referencing.

Do not call concierge. Ugh.

I would be helpful if you were to include a link to the article.

OK, so looks like one is supposed to call the concierge to get access to these special fares, which apparently only apply to some routes.

At the end of September, American Express announced a preferred partnership with American Airlines and their alliance partners, British Airways, Japan Airlines, Finnair and Iberia I cannot find a press release mentioning this. The blog article is confusing because it mentions calling the Platinum concierge to book, but the American Express spokesperson refers to travel counselors and Relationship Managers . I would not call the concierge, nor would I call American Express Travel (outsourced to Orbitz). I would call Platinum Travel Service, but that's only a guess. |

If you're not comfortable posting it, where do I find it? I logged into my account (I've the personal Amex Platinum), and I see the number for the concierge for example, but nothing specific to Platinum Travel Service. **EDIT** Found it. Contact us -> pick "Travel" from the drop down menu |
I tried calling for a flight in AA PHL-FLL Flight in March (Called the number on the back of the card, requested travel) and the prices were exactly the same as AA's website (both Coach and FC)

Booking AA BIZ via AMEX for less than aa.com?
there have been a couple of blog posts over the last few months about amex travel having access to some 'special' business class rates. I just called and they seem to be the same as the aa website. Are there any tips or info for getting to these rates? As I recall from the bloggies, the rates were about 1/3 of what aa.com was showing.

This sounds similar to:
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/ameri...der-fares.html ...but the fare differences are small. |
I think the bloggers were cherry picking results to get a newsworthy post. So it's possible you can lick out but it's not every fare on every date.

You will probably save on credit card fees if you book through the Amex travel website. At least that's the case with BA.
