Airline fee $200/$100 reimbursement reports: UA only (2017-2019)
 

Regarding Registry, once I put funds into the registry, is there anyway to cash them out? (ie. buy GCs)? Is there any known method to get a reimbursement for the $200 credit? I utilized the Amazon GC trick via MPX last year, but looking for some other method for this years credit.

Just realized after purchasing Amazon Gift cards thru MPX that this is not allowed anymore.

What's an option where I can get the $200 credit for 2017. I need to do this soon as my AF is approaching.

Does United airline allow gift cards? Any other options.

Doesn't really say much about how to utilize the funds in the "TravelBank". Can they only be used towards an United flight? Any other way to "liquidate" get cash or close to cash equivalent for the funds in the TravelBank?

Should I put another $100 (PRG) on my gift registry now? Or wait to see if something better pops up (with United or on another airline) this year? The risk of course is that they could close the gift registry loophole like they did with MPX.

Only you can answer that. I personally will have no problems using the gift registry credit on UA over the course of the next year. Not sure how something better could pop up.

Anyone having trouble attempting to search for name in the gift registry? My name will not pull up ... last name or first/last name "Your search found 0 results." (ps. I have an unusual last name) I've put money past 3 years, and my profile shows I have a registry built along with history of deposits. I've also sent myself a link via the announcement, but that link just goes back to the name search box. Lastly, gift registry is turned ON.

I had the same exact problems yesterday (unusual name, existing registry, sent link that didn't work). But I just tried it again with the emailed link, and the search, and now (a day later) the search worked.

Use the link in your gift registry web page to send an announcement to your email address. This better, faster, and more reliable than searching for your gift registry, especially if you have a common name. Even someone with an unusual surname like mre5765 has could not find his registry after creating it.

I created my registry over a year ago.

I sent an announcement and no emails so far.

I found the original registry announcement and I click Make Contribution and it goes to a page with buttons to Create Registry, Manage Registry and search by name.

Search by name doesn't find anything.

This is the same issue I am experiencing, read a couple of posts above.

Has anyone got the airline credit recently from buying gift cards in the Mileage Plus X app.?

People were buying Amex gift cards last year and they got the credit back. But lately people are saying it no longer works.

How about other kinds of gift cards, like they have gift cards for things like Starbucks, Panera Bread, etc.

Yeah I've been having issues as well - United IT at its best no doubt - email link just reverts back to the main registry page as quoted above.

They also seem to have some kind of gift certificates and even have a page where you enter the number to check the balance.

But I see no way to buy gift certificates.

The registry can be used to purchase tickets for any traveler, even if account holder isn't traveling, correct?

After adding money, how do you redeem? I don't see any options on checkout for Gift Registry, but assuming since I just added $ it's b/c it's within 24 hours?

Can registry be combined with another payment option? I assume one credit card is possible.

What about a credit with united. I have a cancelled ticket from last year that I must use up and i would like to merge it with this travel bank. (E.g. $300 from credit w united + $200 for a $500 flight)

I purchased another $ 200.00 for the travel bank on Sunday. Posted today but no credit yet. I didn't make a new choice after Dec 31, I assume as long as I don't make a change they keep UA as my

Yes, no problem. I often have a few bucks in my Travel Bank via the $5 credits from the United.com club for each ticket and apply them.

TravelBank cash cannot be used as a form of payment in combination with PayPal Credit, online check by TeleCheck®, Alipay, cash, gift certificates or United Airlines travel certificates.

When you book a flight, as part of the payment process shows you your available Travel Bank balance and you can apply it. I think it takes a day or so after purchase for new credit to become part of the available balance.

I operate under the same assumption because that's how it worked last year. Also gives me the option to switch to another airline if for some reason my gifts to myself don't result in credits.

Datapoint: Personal plat, created registry and contributed $200 on 12/27, refund $200 posted on 12/28.

(I was going to do the same for my PRG $100, but forgot to do it before the end of the year, duh!)

Seems like Platinum credits very fast, but so far, two PRG cards doing it on the same day as two platinums haven't credited yet, but the Plats have...

Purchased United Gift Registry for Myself. Charge posted and credited in a few days. Still working for 2017. Thanks UA and AMEX..

Reimbursement reports from 2015 and 2016 have been archived HERE.

I have refreshed the Wikipost to reflect the UA no longer sells gift cards and that MPX transactions are no longer reimbursed. However, I am not a UA flyer and it would be best if someone who is familiar with the program would review and refine the Wiki. We are lacking information about legitimate fees are are/not reimbursed.

Single $200 contribution made through Gift Registry on 1/1.
$200 credit received with transaction date of 1/3 (not there when I looked last night but there when I looked this morning).

hmm, the loss of the MPX transfer is a bummer for sure.

just did 100 on prg. hopefully it posts and refunds i a few days so i can do it on the other cards as well

Changed my airline to United 1/1/17 with Amex Platinum. Made (1) $200.00 charge to my gift registry on 1/1/17. Charge posted 1/1/17. Travel Credit ($200) from Amex posted 1/3/17.

Finally got it to work.

The Make Contribution link, followed by searching for the recipient, would never work in Safari browser.

So I tried FireFox and it found the registry.

Then I entered my credit card and it churned forever before return a 400 error, bad gateway timeout.

But I see on my iPhone that UA charged $1 pre-auth and $100 the actual amount on my PRG Amex.

Then the email comes, showing I got a contribution.
