CAUTION: In February 2019, American Airlines changed the coding of gift card transactions. Although there are a few successful data points since, in general, Gift Card purchases are now explicitly identified, and no longer reimbursed by American Express.

Reminder: you must enroll and select your airline BEFORE making a reimbursable purchase. http://www.americanexpress.com/airlinechoice -or- "Call the number on the back of your Card to select a qualifying airline."

Data Points on automatically reimbursed incidentals since 2017:

Admirals Club Memberships: Admirals Club Passes: Admirals Club Food/Drinks: Award Cancellation Fee*: Award Taxes/Fees: Baggage*: Change Fee*: Close-In Ticket Fee*: Elite 500-mile Stickers: Elite Challenges: External Reservation Fee: Five Star Service: Infant Fees: MCE/Seat Selection: Mileage Multipler: Pet Fee*: Same Day Flight Change: Upfares: Upgrades:
Wifi is provided by one of three third-party providers and is thus not eligible for the incidental credit.

* For items not automatically reimbursed but which are not excluded by Amex, you can try and request manual reimbursement from American Express; however, you may need to wait 14-28 days first.

Amex Gold:

Purchased $100 AA GC on 10/25/18 and on 10/28/2018 it showed that I've used all of my airline fee credit for this year. I'm guessing credit will post later today or tomorrow.

Mine says the same (purchased 10/26 with Aspire, still waiting for statement credit as of 10/29):AMERICAN AIRLINES 45800-433-7300 TX

Miscellaneous Tax(es)/Fee(s)

However, the little "$250 Airline Fee" rainbow thingie under "Benefits" shows that the $100 credit has been applied, so I'm assuming the statement credit will appear soon.

Is there any trick or gotacha to keep in mind, before purchasing the gift card?

I mean, I have $61 remaining (Credit Available through Dec 2018), so Im thinking of buying a $50 gc.

Do we just purchase using this link:

https://giftcards.aa.com/order.jsp?giftcard=Plastic

I have chosen AA as my partner airline.

Thanks

If you have read the Wikipost at the top of this thread you should be good to go. Do you specifically want a plastic card rather than the electronic version?

Virtual is fine, after seeing they charge a fee to post the plastic card.

With the Elite Upgrades from AA starting up, would the Amex Plat $200 benefit count if it's used toward an elite upgrade?
