CAUTION: In February 2019, American Airlines changed the coding of gift card transactions. Although there are a few successful data points since, in general, Gift Card purchases are now explicitly identified, and no longer reimbursed by American Express.

Reminder: you must enroll and select your airline BEFORE making a reimbursable purchase. http://www.americanexpress.com/airlinechoice -or- "Call the number on the back of your Card to select a qualifying airline."

Data Points on automatically reimbursed incidentals since 2017:

Admirals Club Memberships: Admirals Club Passes: Admirals Club Food/Drinks: Award Cancellation Fee*: Award Taxes/Fees: Baggage*: Change Fee*: Close-In Ticket Fee*: Elite 500-mile Stickers: Elite Challenges: External Reservation Fee: Five Star Service: Infant Fees: MCE/Seat Selection: Mileage Multipler: Pet Fee*: Same Day Flight Change: Upfares: Upgrades:
Wifi is provided by one of three third-party providers and is thus not eligible for the incidental credit.

* For items not automatically reimbursed but which are not excluded by Amex, you can try and request manual reimbursement from American Express; however, you may need to wait 14-28 days first.

No idea if there's a difference, but everything I've purchased was virtual for simplicity's sake.

I am curiosly to know as well.

I have Amex PRG and I had to cancel my AA Award flight (Reinstate my mileage back) and the fee was for $150.

I hope my $100 airline credit will cover portion of that $150.

What are some success rate on calling CS if not automatically credited?

Thanks all

So I got 2x $100 EGC for both myself and spouse on 1/4. No credit yet, but it's still early. But here's my problem. I really need to book a ticket today with these EGC. Any chance they will waive the 72 hour rule if I call in?

UPDATE. Well they won't or can't waive the rule. But she told me to put rez on hold and when my EGC are ready tomorrow, I can apply them to purchase. I had no idea one could hold an AA ticket. Glad I went ahead and did this bc now the ticket is showing up $50 more.

And still no AX credit. Hopefully will post tomorrow.

Not sure if you did this, but I just realized I did after spending 2x$100. I forgot to change my airline choice from United to American on Amex Website. So I just did that, one of my charges is still pending so I'm crossing my fingers that it counts towards the airline credit. If not I will just have $400 in credit instead of $200. Lesson learned!!

I actually logged out and logged back in after changing to AA on Amex airline choice page b/c I was so paranoid. And, in fact, my credits did post on 1/6 (but they only showed up online on 1/7...but dated 1/6). Good luck on yours working out!

I believe you have to have activity in the registry within 24 months to maintain an active status.
