CAUTION: In February 2019, American Airlines changed the coding of gift card transactions. Although there are a few successful data points since, in general, Gift Card purchases are now explicitly identified, and no longer reimbursed by American Express.
Reminder: you must enroll and select your airline BEFORE making a reimbursable purchase. http://www.americanexpress.com/airlinechoice -or- "Call the number on the back of your Card to select a qualifying airline."
Data Points on automatically reimbursed incidentals since 2017:
Admirals Club Memberships: Admirals Club Passes:
Wifi is provided by one of three third-party providers and is thus not eligible for the incidental credit.
* For items not automatically reimbursed but which are not excluded by Amex, you can try and request manual reimbursement from American Express; however, you may need to wait 14-28 days first.

Yes received confirmation that I picked American, and chat and phone agents both saw it and said I should be able to use it immediately. Just wish I could see more DPs of people who used it on the first day they picked it, or within 24 hours of picking it. I'm almost certain last time I picked an airline and used it the next morning (within 24 hours) and it posted fine, but not sure.

Amex Hilton Aspire
I bought a single $250 AA e-gift-card on Thu 12/27.
The purchase posted on Sat 12/29.
Early this morning, Sun 12/30, my progress counter went from $250 available to all used up for the year, but the credit was not showing yet.
Later this morning, Sun 12/30, $250 credit showed up! ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^

Gold Card: Morning of 12/26 selected AA, purchased a $100 e-gift card on afternoon of 12/27. Initially showed up as pending "AA ARC" with Tulsa address. On 12/29 it changed to the Dallas address. On 12/30 the charge posted and credit was processed.

UPDATE: Just checked the progress counter and it's showing it at $50. That means the $200 kicked in but yet to show up on the account. The $50 is yet to kick in.

If the charges post on December 28th but I don't get a credit until January 1st 2019, does that credit count towards my 2018 $200 fee reimbursement or 2019?

Looking at my dashboard it's showing I have only $50 remaining from $250 for year 2018. If charge was posted in 2018 I think you will get the credit from the 2018 allocation. I'm taking screenshot of my dashboard just to be safe since it mentions 2018.

AA purchases of less than $50??
I have only $40 of airline credit remaining on my Platinum card. Anyone have ideas on how i can purchase a gift card on AA.com? The minimum is $50...if I go ahead and purchase that amount, will I still be reimbursed for the $40 balance of remaining airline credit?

When does the system opens up for credit again?
It’s saying:
You have used all of your $200 Airline Fee Credit for this year.
It will renew again starting Jan 2020

I see:
If yours shows 2020 that suggests you have already used the 2019 credit, which seems improbable. I would check back in a few days to allow time for pending transactions to post etc.

It must be a glitch because of the time zone, I have 12:45 AM.
My friend’s card is also reading 2020.
