CAUTION: In February 2019, American Airlines changed the coding of gift card transactions. Although there are a few successful data points since, in general, Gift Card purchases are now explicitly identified, and no longer reimbursed by American Express.

Reminder: you must enroll and select your airline BEFORE making a reimbursable purchase. http://www.americanexpress.com/airlinechoice -or- "Call the number on the back of your Card to select a qualifying airline."

Data Points on automatically reimbursed incidentals since 2017:

Admirals Club Memberships: Admirals Club Passes: Admirals Club Food/Drinks: Award Cancellation Fee*: Award Taxes/Fees: Baggage*: Change Fee*: Close-In Ticket Fee*: Elite 500-mile Stickers: Elite Challenges: External Reservation Fee: Five Star Service: Infant Fees: MCE/Seat Selection: Mileage Multipler: Pet Fee*: Same Day Flight Change: Upfares: Upgrades:
Wifi is provided by one of three third-party providers and is thus not eligible for the incidental credit.

* For items not automatically reimbursed but which are not excluded by Amex, you can try and request manual reimbursement from American Express; however, you may need to wait 14-28 days first.

this was on a PRG card, it was the first purchase i made with the card upon activating it... hope that it might just be a delayed credit... i had just enrolled in the credit, wonder if maybe the system failed to register the enrolment before i made the purchase... has anybody else gotten the credit after waiting 11 days?

What card was your reimbursed credit for, and how long have you had the card?

Bought 1 $100 AA e Gift Card from giftcards dot aa dot com using Gold Card (PRG) on 10/12.
Reimbursed 10/16.

Original Purchase posted as below and on the dashboard in benefits was seeing the message before reimbursement
"You have used all of your $100 Airline Fee Credit for this year. It will renew again starting Jan 2019" .

So was fairly confident that the reimbursement would happen.

How long after you selected AA as your airline did you make that first eGC purchase? I just selected the airline and was going to give it a few hours before I make the purchase.

After buying another one, this time it was reimbursed $100 on gold card after 2 days. I think maybe its best to always enroll and purchase after a few weeks in order to make sure the enrollment has gone through.

Adding another data point (Amex Platinum):

* Selected AA as my airline on Oct. 6.
* Maybe five minutes later, purchased one gift card for $100. Three minutes later, another for $100.
* Both transactions posted Oct. 9 (maybe Oct. 8?) from what I could tell.
* Observed evening of Oct. 10 that my 2018 credit was shown as used
* Credit posted to account on Oct. 11, dated Oct. 10

Worried I purchased too quickly, but doesn't seem like there's a waiting period after selection, at least based on this.

AA$100 dollar gift card worked for me. Selected AA as airline first and minutes after bought a $100 dollar virtual gift card on Oct 12th. Credit posted on Oct 15th!

Going to buy another $100 dollar now to complete the 200.

Did this get answered or does anyone have a similar experience? I have $191.xx left and similar to the OP I want to purchase $200 worth of gift cards. I am assuming that AMEX will reimburse me for the $191.
