CAUTION: In February 2019, American Airlines changed the coding of gift card transactions. Although there are a few successful data points since, in general, Gift Card purchases are now explicitly identified, and no longer reimbursed by American Express.

Reminder: you must enroll and select your airline BEFORE making a reimbursable purchase. http://www.americanexpress.com/airlinechoice -or- "Call the number on the back of your Card to select a qualifying airline."

Data Points on automatically reimbursed incidentals since 2017:

Admirals Club Memberships: Admirals Club Passes: Admirals Club Food/Drinks: Award Cancellation Fee*: Award Taxes/Fees: Baggage*: Change Fee*: Close-In Ticket Fee*: Elite 500-mile Stickers: Elite Challenges: External Reservation Fee: Five Star Service: Infant Fees: MCE/Seat Selection: Mileage Multipler: Pet Fee*: Same Day Flight Change: Upfares: Upgrades:
Wifi is provided by one of three third-party providers and is thus not eligible for the incidental credit.

* For items not automatically reimbursed but which are not excluded by Amex, you can try and request manual reimbursement from American Express; however, you may need to wait 14-28 days first.

Well, yesterday (22 Nov) was Thanksgiving, and these things do slow down on weekends/holidays, so I would not worry in earnest until you haven't heard anything as of next Tuesday. You're still well within the limits of normal.

In the past, the buy-up programs have been run/charged by Points.com and eBay, IIRC.

I purchased one AA virtual gift card for $100 on Friday the 23rd and am still waiting for the reimbursement. I used my (an authorized user) AmEx Platinum. Weirdly, the website subtracted the $100 from the $200 "meter" showing the remaining airline reimbursement benefit, but it doesn't show the credit anywhere on the transactions and activity tab. Is there somewhere on the website where I can see all the airline credits?

Update: The credit posted late on Monday the 26th. Thanks for the replies in the meantime!

Purchased $200 AA electronic GC, posting on 11/23. Fee meter is showing that I have used all of my $200 fee reimbursement. Awaiting the credit.

I've read elsewhere in this thread that if the meter is reduced, that means your reimbursement will happen.

Yes, the "meter" often precedes the actual statement credit by a day or so.

I thought this only worked for a max of $100 GC.
