CAUTION: In February 2019, American Airlines changed the coding of gift card transactions. Although there are a few successful data points since, in general, Gift Card purchases are now explicitly identified, and no longer reimbursed by American Express.
Reminder: you must enroll and select your airline BEFORE making a reimbursable purchase. http://www.americanexpress.com/airlinechoice -or- "Call the number on the back of your Card to select a qualifying airline."
Data Points on automatically reimbursed incidentals since 2017:
Admirals Club Memberships: Admirals Club Passes:
Wifi is provided by one of three third-party providers and is thus not eligible for the incidental credit.
* For items not automatically reimbursed but which are not excluded by Amex, you can try and request manual reimbursement from American Express; however, you may need to wait 14-28 days first.

AA is my registered airline on my PRG.
This might be a mistake, but I had purchased a one-way ticket on AA that cost about $126. I applied a $50 GC to the fare and paid the remaining 76 with my PRG.
A few days later, I noticed that I received a $76 credit on my Amex statement. Not sure if Amex is going the route of Chase Sapphire Reserve and expanding the reimbursements from "incidentals" to a broader category which includes fares. That would be a very nice change.

Hmm... I made my order of 4 $100 gift cards on sunday... 2 on my personal Plat, 2 on my business Plat. Have not seen the charge yet, but when I tried to redeem them today, they did not go through... Anyone else have this problem? Thanks.

I called AA, they said there was a security alert on the orders, perhaps because I made so many at once. I guess I'll have to spread them out ....

Just wanted to offer a quick data point. I upgraded my AA flight to Tokyo to business class. The upgrade fee was $350 and AMEX credited a $100 back on my PRG. I know the AMEX terms specifically indicate that upgrades won't qualify so it was a pleasant surprise.

1/30 bought 3 gc - $75x2 and $50
As of today2/19, no reimbursement.
Charge shows as misc taxes and fees on my statement. I changed airlines around that time. Could it be the change showed on my log-in but didn't actually get processed until after I bought the gcs? Should I call?
