CAUTION: In February 2019, American Airlines changed the coding of gift card transactions. Although there are a few successful data points since, in general, Gift Card purchases are now explicitly identified, and no longer reimbursed by American Express.
Reminder: you must enroll and select your airline BEFORE making a reimbursable purchase. http://www.americanexpress.com/airlinechoice -or- "Call the number on the back of your Card to select a qualifying airline."
Data Points on automatically reimbursed incidentals since 2017:
Admirals Club Memberships: Admirals Club Passes:
Wifi is provided by one of three third-party providers and is thus not eligible for the incidental credit.
* For items not automatically reimbursed but which are not excluded by Amex, you can try and request manual reimbursement from American Express; however, you may need to wait 14-28 days first.

My missing late December credit finally showed up. Hooray!
So far this year, AMEX seems very fast with the credit. I've been doing them for a family member and they got each one within 2 days.

I appreciate that you made time to post the outcome.
It appears that American Express does a daily sweep for qualifying transactions. If a particular transaction is missed for any reason, it won't be picked up until they run a separate sweep that looks at a wider range of dates, and this may only be done once or twice a month.

I just bought a $100 GC today and within a minute got an email with the new GC. However when I click on the link in that email to retrieve my GC, I get the message to wait and check back in 48 hours. Is this normal?

1/11 bought $200 eGC
1/13 checked my account and I found the mistake I made, 1x $200 eGC instead of $100 eGC
1/13 same day I decided to buy $100 eGC
1/15 I checked my account to check the credit before ordering my second $100 eGC, but I found I got a credit from Amex for $200 with 1/13 as the posting date
I didn't see that credit on 1/13, so I don't know if the credit that I got it was for the first eGC or for a combination of both transactions...
