Quick data point: I wasn't targeted for the 2x MR on Platinum purchases offer, but figured it wouldn't hurt to call customer service. Mentioned that I'd heard murmurs of a 2x MR promotion and asked if it was something they could apply to my account. No joy. Didn't press the issue with the customer service rep. Ah well. :/

I registered before staying. Usually, these promos get credited along with an authorization for minimum amount at checkin, but this time not then, and not now that the hotel has settled the charge with a final amount ($200). Chatted with a rep today who brushed me off with "wait five days after posting date (8/22)".
(Edited to add that the credit did post on its own)
Hilton AP charges post immediately (from Hilton reservations), while regular stays post from the hotel. The system seems geared towards looking for that as a charging party.

If anyone is still looking to use this offer, check you local BBB. I found $200 Mastercards at a store in NH, and it's no problem to use 8 cards at $25 each for the purchase.

There were other 3rd party cards, but none that I was interested in. I would have taken Netflix, Amazon, or Virgin Mobile, but didn't see any. Plenty of restaurants. There were Visas, but not $200. $100 I think, but definitely $50. There were $200 Amex's too. Nothing over $200.

Finally made it to Sheetz to try out the sync that expires at end of month. Pre-paid $25 in gas inside (since the T&C excluded payment at the pump). Got the $5 credit - unfortunately won't be able to use the other credit before 8/31 as I'm out of state (sync was for 2x).
Oddly, Sheetz inside is coded as grocery store (not that it matters since PRG is 2x on gas and grocery)
