I don't get it. If you purchased a ticket for $236, and selected pay with miles, you'd use 23,600 SkyMiles. So what did you need to use the Hilton card for?

2/16 - $209.60 posted as “Travel - Airline”.

So far no credit posted and meter hasn’t moved. Shouldn’t it have posted as “Additional Collection”? Not very hopeful that I’ll get reimbursed.

(I'm assuming you mean 12/15 and 12/16)

Or you should just chill out and wait a few days:

(weekend in here, if that makes a difference)
8/5 - meter moved
8/6 - reimbursed (shows date of 8/5, but wasn't there last night)

I just did the GC trick on my ticket and charged the remaining $118 on my platinum card. However I see this transaction labeled as “Travel - Airline” in pending transaction instead of “Additional Collection”. Does this look right?

Can I buy the delta egift card online and use it to buy an airfare? or if i do pay with miles. how many miles will I need to use?

BigDBandit Dec 18, 19 9:50 pm

Tried to search but I haven't found the original DPs that suggest this <$250 limit applies - does anyone know where this came from? Is it an arbitrary number or have people tried >$250 charges that posted as additional collection?

I booked a $311 fare using a $50 GC and charged the remaining $261 to an Aspire with $250 in travel credit remaining - we'll see if it ends up working, if not I should still have time to rebook one that's under $250 after GC (bought a refundable ticket, anyways).

This card, however, is not worth $550/year to me when I'm not flying anywhere. Hell, even if I were to fly somewhere, that $200 perk is fairly worthless to me because I never spend $200 on extraneous flight stuff, so I would just be using it for the sake of using it.

The 60k or 100k signup bonus is worth more than $550 by itself, so don't be too upset not being able to easily double-dip the credit on your first year of membership. Maybe if the incidentals were by membership-year like Chase, they could have generously left the loopholes alone for those of us who renew annually.

I don't think there are specific DPs clearly indicating $250 as the boundary, more group conjecture based on a number of success reports below $250 and some failure reports well above $250 so the rule, if there is one, seems to be in between, plus, we're only guessing that the rule is the same always and doesn't depend on other dynamic factors that have yet to be identified. $250 would vaguely make sense as the highest of the various card benefits.

i.e. it's not like there were DPs of $245, $246, $247, $248, $249, $250 working and $251, $252 and $253 not working :) your $261 will be an interesting test case.

A motivated person could do a survey of the last 6-9 months worth of reports and post a summary back to the thread or in the wiki, but I am not that person :p (at least not tonight)

The balance was $236 after paying with some number of miles to bring the residual cost below $250. This is just another good example of a split payment transaction that triggers the credit.

Smart thinking. I've never use the 24 hour period on a gift card purchase before? If a gift card is used as payment and I cancel in the 24 hour period do the funds just go back on the gift card? IIRC, when I've done that paying with a credit card they usually end up never charging the credit card isntead of charging it and issuing a refund.

Yes. And in the mixed payment case all amounts go back to wherever they originally came from.

Does anybody know if the Ascend Package (wifi + priority boarding) is reimbursed?
Wifi isn't reimbursed because it's billed differently, but this comes as a package so I'm not sure how it's billed.

I wish they could be used for FCM upgrades.

Hey jamesteroh , I know I'm seeing this very late but just wondering... where these available online or at the warehouse? Thanks.

Looks like they aren't available online anymore.

There were reports in the Delta forum thread about a lot of warehouses having them. They were available in either $500 or $1000 cards and were marked down 10%.

The 'flight change' charge was just posted, showing up as additional collection.
Waiting to see if it will trigger reimbursement. (been less than 24 hours since posted, meter haven't moved yet)
BTW this was charged by Delta's foreign branch, in foreign currency converted to USD

ximei Dec 19, 19 5:55 pm

Same situation here, charged by Delta's foreign branch in foreign currency converted to USD. Although I booked directly on Delta US website. Charge posted 12/7, haven't heard anything since then, now it's 12/19. Should I contact Delta before the year ends?
