Costco has $500 Delta gift cards for $450, not sure how long they'll last, the $1K are already sold out. Be good for use on a more expensive flight. I bought two and they can be used immediately.

I wish they could be used for FCM upgrades.

If I were to "upgrade" from Basic Econ to Main Cabin during the ticket purchase process will that count as an actual upgrade which DP's suggest would not work? Planning to use the splitting / GC trick.

Card: Aspire

11/16: Bought a ticket $426 = $100 GC + $100 GC + $226 CC
11/19: Meter moved ($24 left out of $250)
11/20: Credit posted ($226)

So would it be possible to do this:
1. Buy $50 DL GC (any CC)
2. Buy a 2020 refundable DL fare with $50 GC + diff paid with Aspire
3. Wait for Amex credit on the diff
4. Cancel reservation in 2020
5. Get the $$ credited back to AMEX and the GC credited back, and not see reversal the 2019 credit?

Everything you wrote was possible until you got to this, IMO.

I can't find this in the wiki. Anyone had any luck using Pay with miles for part of the fare and getting a credit for paying the remaining balance with your Am Ex?

Yes, this works. PWM tickets purchased 10/28, credited on 10/31.

Delta remaining credit for the year

I have used $118 of my credit so far on buying Delta SkyMiles Select for my wife and I (purchased Nov 17th and reimbursed Nov 22nd). We have an international trip next July and it is not able to offer mileage booster.
any recommendations for how to spend my remaining $82 of credit for the year? We are in Comfort Plus already so seat selection is not really an option I believe.
Thanks

Yes, I am trying to figure out how to spend my remaining $45 as well.. I am Silver Medallion so I don’t see the point of buying SKyMiles Select.

For people who are reasonably certain they will fly DL in the next 330 days, I suggest that split payment for a fully refundable ticket to get the credit, and then instead of immediately refunding the ticket, keeping it around and changing it in the future to the actual dates you need, will enhance the longevity of this loophole, to the extent that that is something people care about.

would really like to know if this works too

I read up-thread that fees on award bookings usually do trigger the credit ... Is this still the case? I'm looking to book 2 delta flights from CDG-SFO that will have around $600 in fees (carrier imposed and government imposed) and I'm wondering if I can at least minimize those charges w/ my Amex Plat card.

Do this then?

1. Buy $50 DL GC (any CC)
2. Buy a 2020 refundable DL fare with $50 GC + diff paid with Aspire
3. Wait for Amex credit on the diff
4. Modify the reservation in 2020 to one you will actually purchase (assuming you will fly DL sometime in 2020)
5. Get any $$ credited back to AMEX that is in excess, since presumably the actual flight you will be purchasing will be less than an unrestricted fare

There is clearly risk of AMEX clawback here, as others have pointed out (and PMd me), but this scenario seems less risky to me than the one 7-8 posts up

Thanks for this data point. I purchased $59 Delta SkyMiles Select on 11/21 and no credit yet. Hoping it posts today (day #5 ).

Has anyone had luck with the additional collection being reimbursed recently for DL? I'm on day 6 and the meter still hasn't moved. Additional collection amount posted for $71.00

I did last week.

Bought a ticket for $382.40 and used $190 in gift cards resulting in $192.40 being charged on 11/18. Received the remaining $133.81 left of my airline credit on 11/22. I really hope they don't close this loophole. Seeing I only fly Delta the credit doesn't do me much good since I already get checked bags for free (and even if I didn't I wouldn't carry on anyway) and don't have to pay change/cancel fees on award tickets and if I don't get upgraded to F, in am C+ for free and get comped drinks.

If they do end up closing this loop hole maybe I should buy $200 worth of snack boxes on a flight LOL
