Should transfer instantaneously, but you won't be able to reverse the transfer if there is a delay.

I'm not very knowledgable about this program but most airline programs translate 1 MR point to 1 airline point -- Virgin America's default is 1 MR = 0.5 point, are their points really worth twice as much as, say, Jet Blue's or AA/UA? (The omission of DL is definitely intentional!)

The first post in this thread indicates a fixed monetary value of $0.0215 MTWT Sa, and $0.0165 on F Su. The post was written in 2008, before we had Wikiposts, may wish to verify current values.
Another comparison: Redeem for a partner flight on Virgin Atlantic SFO-LHR-SFO in Upper Class for 50,000 points plus $1150. The same trip using Virgin Atlantic Flying Club miles would be 100,000 miles plus $1,300. (You can also use Delta for Virgin Atlantic flights. I believe it would be 125,000 Skymiles, with lower fees.)

1.6-2.1 centa a mile was available on all majors back in 2008, I think.
But that SFO-LHR-SFO is a real convincer to do it -- too bad Virgin Atlantic has such low availability in upper class. But it sounds like it might be worth gambling on that possibility given that I am trying to eat up some Amex MR points. Thanks.

Of late, Virgin Atlantic has had excellent availability MIA-LHR-MIA, but I don't look at SFO. One thing to check is the VX pricing for one-way flights on VS. I recall they may not be as favorably priced as the round trips. I often construct mixed carrier MIA-LHR-MIA trips, because all three of the non-stop carriers (AA, BA, VS) offer one-way awards, and I'm not enthused about VS's daytime flights.

I set out to do this but to transfer 80k MR to 50K Elevate also requires an Amex fee of $48. I had forgotten about this because there is no such fee when transfering to Virgin Atlantic or BA. That neutralizes some of the cash fee difference between Virgin Atlantic and Virgin America, but I guess the bonus makes still makes it worthwhile.

VX is now a Citi ThankYou Rewards partner, and is running a similar promotion:

Virgin America Transfer Promo (Probably Targeted)
I didn't see this anywhere else so I'm posting it here (sorry if it's already been mentioned somewhere).
Transfer 80K+ Membership Rewards® points to your Elevate® account through 12/31/15 for an upgrade to Elevate Gold Status. Terms apply.
However for the 80K MR points you will only get 40K Elevate points. Still though, the Gold status may be worth it if you fly Virgin often enough to make use of it. Anyone else seen this promo or have an opinion on its value? I fly SEA - LAX fairly often but usually end up taking AS due to my DL status (which gets to be less and less of a benefit).

Still curious to know how those of you who have Gold status on Virgin America enjoy it.
