Top blogs peg 1 AA mile = $0.017 (The Points Guy & View From The Wing agree on this valuation)

You are effectively buying 10k miles for $175 when their value is only $170.

I have around 16K SPG points without the card. I need around 4500 to make it 20K to transfer to AA for 30K AA miles.

My wife doesn't have SPG card or points but she has Amex MR points from her Everyday card. Can she transfer some MR points to my SPG account? If yes, how many MR points she has to transfer if I need 4500 SPG points?
Thanks

It says $175.00 for 5k points.
What miles/points are worth, and what it costs if you decide to buy them, are two different things entirely.

Generally, the cost to buy miles/points is too high for outright redemption to be profitable. However, buying a top-off amount, when you "paid" much less to get the rest, can sometimes be worth it, even if the top-off amount in itself is obtained at a poorer value.

But it still all depends how you'll use your AA miles. If you use 25k for a domestic coach round trip that would cost $350 cash, even a top-off of $175 for 5k would a very poor value!

  • 35 - Starwood Preferred Guest: 33 Airlines; Starwood hotels; Amtrak
  • 22 - Diners Club Rewards (USA): 14 Airlines; 7 Hotels; Amtrak
  • 20 - American Express Membership Rewards (USA):16 Airlines; 4 Hotels
  • 10 - Chase Ultimate Rewards: 6 Airlines; 3 Hotels; Amtrak

Raw numbers don't equate to value. In each program there are partners with a poor transfer ratio that we would only use to top-up to claim an award.

How do I extend my points for little points?

Thank
If you have a SPG hotel near your area, go grab a drink or a meal that's over $10 and you can earn spg points which will reset your expiry date
