Amex (USA) OPEN Savings 5% Hyatt benefit [Ending 12.31.2015]
Question (basic I think) - and mods feel free to move to a better thread, looked around for one.
Is the 5% off the total bill at check out? I.E., I'm staying on points, but dining, room charges, taxes.. if I pay with an OPEN card with savings at a Hyatt on the list - I should receive that discount on the entire amount?
Have a stay coming up - I also have the Hyatt Visa, just wondering what's more valuable to me - already getting the 20% of points back b/c of Visa, so "feel guilty" thinking about using my Amex OPEN card

Thanks - 5% real cash (plus MR points - Amex Biz/OPEN Platinum or DL SkyMiles - Amex DL Biz Platinum) vs. 3x's Hyatt GP points (Hyatt Visa) and 15% point bonus (Hyatt Platinum)...
I lean to actual cash discount - money in my pocket... but does make me think... curious what others would do?

I was just looking for the AMEX 5% discount this morning. I found a reference to a 3% savings:
http://www.hyatt.com/hyatt/meetings/...an-express.jsp
OPEN Savings® has expanded so now you can save at even more places, including Hyatt Hotels & Resorts® in the U.S. Just pay your bill with your American Express® Business Card and save 3% on stays and other hotel purchases.
And I've found a link to the 5% savings:
http://hyatthotels.hyatt.com/content...amex-open.html
Hyatt Hotels & Resorts® boosts the value you get from your Business Card from American Express OPEN as part of the OPEN Savings® benefit. As a built-in Business Card feature, you automatically receive a 5% discount credited to your American Express statement OR 2 additional Membership Rewards® points for each eligible dollar spent at participating Hyatt Hotels & Resorts in the U.S. up to $10,000 per Card Account in a calendar year.
This is confusing to me. What am I missing? How does AMEX know to credit 3% or 5% or 2x MR points?
We have a business AMEX gold card.

Couple things - its not EVERY hotel, but many - see the list in the link I posted earlier. Also, to your question on "how" Amex knows MR or 5% discount, you elect that on the Open Benefits website (be sure to check your election before you travel).

Thanks mia for the research and levilevi for raising the question. We've now registered our business gold AMEX for the 5% rebate. We had to call and do so. I couldn't figure out how to do it online. The agent told my husband that it is good for all Hyatt brands though it is quite clear in looking at the list in the OP's initial post that it is not.

I expect this or what would be the purpose of the list. I used the card to pay for a bill at a non participating Hyatt House. I just checked and received no rebate. This was the outcome I expected.
