Great good to know. Then 50k + 200 free for first year. I just got approved
I just got the card and bought 1000$ reloadit card from a supermarket.
Will i get additional bonus point ( 2x) on this purchase. The term says exclusion of prepaid cards for eligible purchases
I am planning to spend 2500 $ in the supermarket gift cards per month to get additional 60 k points in the first year. is it possible ? or amex can track the the gift card purchase and deny the points ?

Their concern is not primarily about the rewards, but rather about the increased credit risk.

If your spending exceeds what American Express expects based on what they know about your income they may conduct a Financial Review, which usually consists of providing them with an IRS for 4056T and answering questions about your purchases. Read more here:

The amount mentioned is less than my monthly income , so i hope i wont get the FR. But whether does Amex have the capability to see what i have bought or will i get the points for the amount spent on gift cards ?

The 3x Airline bonus is a home run... bought a long haul CX ticket in J and with bonus an instant 25,000 MR points... which is just about 1/2 the points needed when transferring to Asia Miles to upgrade to F..... which with the 50K sign up bonus from this card alone was easily achievable....

The official list is here:

...but it's not comprehensive. Which stores do you have in mind?

I'm interested in trader joes, sprouts and safeway. I would assume safeway is included since they are owned by the same company which owns Vons, but I was just curious if anyone had definitive evidence. I suppose if I only used my card on groceries at a single store and then looked at how many points I received, I would know, but have yet to have that opportunity.

Post #2 in this thread confirms that Trader Joe's qualifies:

Thanks. I've seen that list and was disappointed by it's lack of comprehensiveness.

What types of purchases does Amex collect L3 data for again? Or whatever has transaction level details? I recall for certain purchases, Amex could tell if you are buying gift cards, for others, just the category of the merchant. Which was it again?
