The upgrading to gold gets you 15,000 points.
But recently, the upgrade offer doesn't seem to be working.

I had a friend who upgraded without using that special link, and then told amex about it, asking to manually credit them, at first they said there is no such offer, but after showing them the link, they manually added 15k points to his account.
It could be that then they stopped it.
But recently, the upgrade offer doesn't seem to be working.

You might want to try secure messaging them. Send them the old link and ask if they can match that-heard of some success this way.
Especially as despite reports of some initial success by calling the (Brighton) call centre, it seems people are now consistently being told there's no upgrade offer currently.
