Here's an interesting thing I noticed... Without signing in to my account, if I go to the Amex credit card page, due to cookies and whatnot, my two Amex cards are displayed above the list of other available cards. When I pull up the SPG card, the only offer is for 10,000 points after first use. No mention of an additional 20,000 points after spend. If I go to the same page in incognito, the current 30k offer is listed. This makes me wonder if I would be out of luck applying for the card via a referral. Thoughts? I don't really want to be a guinea pig and bother with all the spend (I'm not a MS guy) but OTOH, if 10k is the best I can ever hope for now then it's still better than 0 and it's a card I'd be happy to have in my wallet long-term.

We apologize for the trouble you experienced with your application for the Starwood Preferred Guest Credit Card from American Express. American Express has identified the error that prevented SPG members with an ID larger than 10 digits to enter this as part of their application. We are happy to report that the issue has been fixed.

I have had a personal card and received the bonus in the past, although I closed it more than 12 months ago. Is AMEX now looking at past history and will they exclude me from the bonus based on one I received more than 12 months ago with the application of a new personal card? Or does the clock start ticking after they changed their rules, making it possible to apply for one more bonus per product (SPG, Gold, ETC) until you are cut off?

Yes. Here is the notice from the application form:

Welcome bonus offer not available to applicants who have or have had this product.

I just applied for the premier gold card on 6/2. They will probably deny my spg application right?

I don't recommend a 2nd swipe at the same POS machine for any CC. Most of the time it will get denied on the 2nd swipe.

but yah. crappy 2k cl. Once I hit the 5k more. I am done with this card.

So the 12 month rule is valid for business cards, and I closed my last SPG business card >12 months back. So am I good to go for the bonus now although I have had both SPG personal and business before?

Recently received my shinny new SPG Amex Card and thought I'd catch up on my TimeWarner bill which I paid online and when my browser freaked out I thought the payment didn't go through.

So I tried again.....like 4 times.

I'm now paid up for the next 8 months. The site didn't tell me I was paid when I hit the refresh button.

I wonder if I could hit $5k on this?

You probably could. I hit the min spend on another credit card a couple months ago by paying $300 towards my Comcast bill.

It really wasn't my intention to do that. I may still call up TimeWarner and get them to credit it back. I'd much rather spend time trying to do some MS's with OV's. Something about that challenge makes all this more fun!

This might be a silly question but AMEX is known to be very stingy with who they approve and I'm asking for my wife who has 709 Experian which isn't a great number by any means but i'm working on improving it for her. I want her to apply for the SPG card since its the 30K offer.. realistically speaking any experts care to weigh in if she would be approved? (I doubt instant but never had any experience with Amex recon as I've always been instantly approved.)

Refer a Friend Bonuses, SPG 35k

I constantly see offers here and there, and affiliate links all over the place. Not enough mention of refer a friend bonuses. I just sent my wife a SPG refer a friend link, which gave her the 30,000 bonus offer, instead of the measly 10,000 on the Amex website now, and I get 5,000 points as well. Which is better than giving an affiliate $128 for the SPG approval payout.
Discover also pays affiliates $100 for the IT, but we split that $50/$50 between referrer and friend. Chase also gives you $50 and I'm sure many other banks have similar refer a friend bonuses.

Maybe you guys want to start a wiki here for all these refer a friend bonuses or even how to get your own affiliate links for friends/family?

30,000 with no spend?

Right now on their website its 10,000 after first purchase and 20,000 after $5,000 spend in 6 months.
