Platinum Cashback Card (UK)
Hi everyone,
At the moment I have a Gold card but am really struggling to justify the annual fee - especially as I don't travel as much as I used to. A friend just sent me details of the following card... American Express Platinum Cashback ...and now I can't help but think I would benefit more from this one. The fee is only £25 a year - and it appears you get 1.25% cashback on all spending...along with purchase protection etc. Is there a catch? Has anyone else made the switch? :) |
Alternatively there is the one with no fee but stepped cashback https://www.americanexpress.com/uk/c...y-credit-card/

Ultimately though, if you are putting food and petrol on the card it looks like you are better paying the £25 a year and getting the increased rate. Or just do it for a year (with the £25 back) and then switch to the Everyday Card after 12 months. :) |

I've had the US version of this card for more than a decade and have been happy with it. You don't get the platinum charge card benefits as suggested, but the cash back is retry nice uncapped for high spenders into cash vs miles.

The cashback cards from Amex are great but look around before applying. I remember coming across a 18 months free interest period on moneysupermarket a couple of months back. Needless to say apps took forever and not many were accepted. Have you also looked at the Captial one Business elite? (or the personal card also) as an alternative to a none-amex card (side card). The plat credit card isn't as great as the Gold charge, in my view! You could go for a basic chargecard (£0 fee) and get membership rewards added on (as before doing so though!). Also, talk your options through with the renatations team. |
