Best value for points out there

Hey,

Quick question: over the years we have amassed quite a few points on AMEX and we are really looking for the best value for points out there (as in points per $).

I noticed some good ones are buying certain gift cards from stores (i.e. Neiman Marcus at 100 points per $1, so 50,000 for $500 gift card).

How else would you recommend using the points? What are the best alternatives/suggestions?

Thanks!

$500 gift card for 50,000 points is only one cent per point, not a good value. Wait until an airline or hotel has a 50% or 100%, or better bonus for transferring MR points to get a better value.

The best financial value is always to transfer to an airline frequent flyer program and redeem for intercontinental business or first class tickets. Nothing else even approaches this value, but if you do not travel to those types of destinations, or value the comfort of premium class flights, gift cards at $0.01 per point are sensible.
