Tim Hortons (Canada) now accept AMEX [$10 credit: 10 Oct - 10 Nov 2013]

Just noticed today Tim Hortons in Canada now accept AMEX. They started with Master Card only, then VISA at the store (Online always since day 1) some time in 2010 or 2011, and now finally AMEX. While this does not change the fact I buy Giftcard from Shoppers with my Gold Reward AMEX, but if I do not have enough on my giftcard, I can now pull out my AMEX. Hopefully one day, we no longer need to say "I need carry a VISA or Master for places AMEX not accepted". Now, hopefully Loblaw Companies Ltd. will follow for all its chains, especially the Master Card only No Frills.

Yeah that would be nice. I'd be happy with RCSS as well.

Spoken like a true Flyertalker! ^

I'm exactly the same way. Most restaurants don't even realize that they can now take AMEX.

Is this at all Tim Hortons? And do they accept payment via Amex Expresspay (aka contactless payment)?

I only went to 1 Tim Hortons today and the sticker and tag are all look very new. Since I use giftcard, I didn't try the AMEX Expresspay, but the terminal is those new one from Chase, so it should work.

Expresspay didn't work for me. It told me to insert the card after it caught the signal.

I noticed a Tim's in Guelph, On took Amex when I was there last night.

Or... if you're me, you have a 1:2 win/loss ratio! Even though now I get my AMEX points

If they only just started taking Amex the machine probably hasn't been updated to take Amex payments. New Amex retailers in the UK on average don't take contactless payments via Amex cards for about 6 to 8 months.

I just used my AMEX at Timmy's in Etobicoke, yay for my aeroplan collection. Tap n pay still didn't work though, still had to use chip + pin.

I've been to tons of Tim's where the staff don't realize that they take Amex. I've had to turn around their little sign "dongle" hanging off the cash register and say "yes, you do".

The worst thing I've had happened today where the proximity reader kept trying to read my card when the chip was refused. Took ~20 swipes to get the mag stripe to be read..
