New to churning: AE platinum + Business gold

For my first churn, I am leaning towards the AE Mercedes Benz personal (50k with $1000 spend) and the AE business (75k with $10000/4months).

I already have a AE gold (~1 year, $125 fee, that I stupidly paid for in Nov after the first year). On this card I have ~ 70k.

So with the two new cards I would have ~ 200k membership rewards points.

1) Should I cancel my existing Gold card (~1 year history) or is there any reason to continue holding onto it?
2) Should I pay off the balance (~2k) before applying for the card?
3) Do you know if AE reimburses fees or allows gift card purchases for JetBlue or Virgin America/Atlantic? I'd like to recoup the $475 fee on the platinum.

Thank you,
S

Read about JetBlue reimbursements here:

Neither Virgin America nor Virgin Atlantic is eligible for any reimbursement.
