How long does American Express call you a current customer?

Folks

many offers today go to 'new customers'. I have a Amex gold card which I want to downgrade to Blue card to avoid the annual fee and then simply use my MR points when it's convenient

However, I don't want to miss out on future Gold card offers and wonder if I keep my MR account active with a blue card, will I be able to avail of a Gold card offer one year from today? Would my chances be better if I had no MR account at all and no blue or gold card?

Thanks

I believe amex treats each version of their cards individually. I would keep a card with them, as it should not hurt your chances in future.

I don't see why not. The current wording on the apps says: Welcome bonus offer not available to applicants who have had this product within the last 12 months or any other Consumer ZYNC®, Green or Gold Card or Platinum Card® account within the last 90 days.

I don't think whether you have a MR account or Blue would matter, but if you have a gold it might. Have not seen much for reports on if they are enforcing their new wording or not.
