Thanks!
I received an instant approval online and received my card in a within a week via snail mail in a nice package explaining all the perks. No idea if things changed in the last few years.

So the amex plat is not invite only? i.e. you can just apply online?

Mine was sent standard first class mail because I'm in Omaha, where I believe it was mailed from. If I recall it was only one or two days delivery.

I don't think you have to be US citizen. Anyone with a SSN can apply. Plus the Platinum card is offered in many other countries.

Here's the US versions T & C:

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

By submitting this application, you are requesting us to open an Account in your name and to issue Card(s) as you direct. Only qualified individuals 18 or over may apply for an Account. This offer is available to US Residents, excluding Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands.

In the U.S., you can simply apply online.

My card was overnighted.

Correct, in the USA Platinum is a mainstream consumer card with 1+ million cardholder accounts.

A family member got theirs overnighted after asking the CSR in order to make a big ticket purchase (~$3,000 I think).

Mine came in a about 3 days as I wasn't in any hurry.

I was approved immediately on the phone.

Without asking or stating that I was looking to make a large purchase, my card was automatically overnighted to me.

If you are looking to apply, I would suggest you look at other threads in this forum to get a higher # of rewards points (potentially even double) for a slightly larger spend requirement
