I just saw on DoC that there's a new signup offer, starting with 10k bonus MR (just one purchase required!), then 10x MR points at restaurants for 6 months (up to 20k), and 2x MR on everything for a year (up to 100k). And then on top of that there's regular feature of the card with is a 30% annual relationship bonus. So it seems like it's actually 2.3x MR for a year on everything in the long run.
Offer ends 1 Feb 2017.

Does Amex send anything that explains this promo, or do you just have to wait to see how things post?
And do restaurants post as 10x as soon as they post, or do you have to wait a couple statement cycles to see that?

P.S. First $2,000 restaurant spending within 6 months when total spending is less than $50,000 should earn 11.3X (1X base + 9X restaurant bonus + 1X anything bonus + 0.3X relationship bonus).

I'm really considering applying for this card before Feb 1, especially considering the sign up bonus only requires a purchase instead of $2-3k of spending.
I know it's been posted a couple of times but the 10k Membership rewards w/ one purchase, 10x on restaurants and 2x on all spending ends on February 1st.

goofy letter from Amex
About a week after applying for this card and linking it to my online account (with my other Amex cards), I got this bizarre letter from Amex that sounded scary (additional fees! ) until I looked at the numbers:
Is this a relic of an era when there used to be an actual charge for linking cards that earn "crippled" Membership Rewards points with cards that earn "full" Membership Rewards points, or what? Why do they bother phrasing the letter as it being a fee when there is no actual fee?

Is there much of a risk in MSing this card for the first year for the 2x points up to 100,000? There would be a lot of natural spend on it when there was no bonused spend on other cards. I wouldn't need to cycle my CL and have a high enough income to justify spending $50k a year on a credit card.

Hmmm, this might be a good candidate for paying taxes.
Earning: $50,000 spend x 2.3 MRs/$ =115,000 MRs + 10,000 Bonus = 125,000 MRs
Cost: $50,000 x 1.87% = $935
Cost per MR Point: $935/125,000= $0.00748
Conclusion: I think I'll buy 125K MRs for about 3/4 of a cent per MR

I am planning to pay taxes with this card too. Don't owe nearly as much as you though, just 6k.
